As another example Regimental standards are venerated by nearly all national militaries.

The standard represents the past of the regiment, those that died under its banner and the accomplishments of those that came before. Even when they are too old to be used they are not destroyed, by often kept safe in museums or even buried. They are treated with the same respect as that due to the soldiers that fight under them. The loss of a standard in battle was seen as a dreadful loss, even more so than that of human loss.

For some slight reference:

Flags are a symbol of the beliefs of a nation. Burning a flag is saying that the beliefs of said nation are of no consequence.

Edit for clarification:

This may not be true of every country in the world. However, when I see an American flag, I think of the virtues of said country and those that died to see it's independence. Furthermore, when I see the Irish tricolour, I think of those that died to secure independence, and the idea behind the countries ideas of a united Irish nation. Therefore the burning of either of those flags I would see as a travesty to those who fought and died, and those that currently inhabit the country represented by the flag.

Bullshit.

I come from a military family.
Burning the flag that they fought for isn't exactly something I'm fond of.

Your family has been fighting for a flag? Damn, dude. Is it kinda like when the bush spoke to Moses? Has the flag been giving orders? Does it speak or write them down?

Bullshit.

An articulate and well though out response.

Just what I expected from EU.

An articulate and well though out response.

Just what I expected from EU.

When you say "articulate" I think of those that died to secure independence, and the idea behind the countries ideas of a united Irish nation. Therefore saying "and" after "articulate" I would see as a travesty to those who fought and died, and those that currently inhabit the country represented.

I'd have to agree, I enjoy my freedoms and want to have less laws governing me and everyone around me besides the essentials to keep people from raping, robbing, killing or raping.  Burning a flag doesn't infringe on any of my rights or really have any effect on me unless I choose to let it affect me mentally...  Big deal, I'm an adult, I can suck it up and get over it, people shouldnt be arrested for dissent if they aren't hurting anybody else, those are the freedoms that our men and women sacrifice/d themselves for.  Not sure if my usage's of effect/affect are correct, someone care to spell check?

It was more of a response to:
Why does it bother you sir?
Than saying it should be against the law. It was an explanation of why someone might be bothered by it. The burning of the flag is acceptable in many places, but not everyone has to agree on its significance.

P.S. Your usage of "effect" was correct

If it the picture wasn't meant to offend or degrade in the first place, why was it posted?

It is not the act of burning a flag that offends some people, it is the intentions of the people who are burning it and what they are trying to symbolize. Nobody burns a flag just to burn some cloth, they burn it to make a point that chances are others will disagree with.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

Flag burning is protected by the first amendment so its basically unamerican to not burn flags.

One time I took a bunch of drunks at a big street party Portuguese Festival after buying some Israeli flags from a dollar vendor and very quickly got a flag burning party and DEATH TO ISRAEL chants going.  My friend showed some random girl a torched israeli flag filled with cigarette burns and said "how awful do you think this country is? and her reply was "I'm jewish."  Made me laugh.  And those israeli flags got to be great tourniquets later on for some unrelated terrible injuries someone sustained.

Also, do not close this thread or delete any posts, all USA threads should be considered "free-speech zones"  and not under the jurisprudence of the totalitarianist cRPG admin regime.

It is only fair that this thread becomes a celebration of all the military and diplomatic accomplishments of our great nation, as this peace brokerage with the FCC is merely one in an illustrious history of triumph and success, as USA continues to serve as the model for all nations on Earth and Calradia to follow.
