Yes.

which horse

Sarranid.

and how much riding would you suggest for a lancer?

Take your agility and divide by three, and you get your riding skill.
Best ban reason ever:

I checked, the only Vagabond I found was Wolves_Vagabond_TheCruel, that guy is now unbanned. Ban reason was: "calling Zotte a cockswoggler".

Every point in Riding makes you ride a bit faster, similar to athletics, but on horse. Not sure about the numbers though.

Torp, basically: yes, that is a good build.

However, like me, you will suck when you are dismounted. Because of 0 athletics and 3 if.

Now don't let people fool you, Sarranid is good, but certainly not best.

Best low cost horse: Palphrey/Steppe Horse
Best cost/efficiency horse: Courser

Horses which cost more on your own preference, Cataphract is probably the best armoured one overall.
Sarranid Horse is the best if you want a high manouvre horse.

Don't mind the fish.

That's a choice you have to make. I have been using a build with 6 if 0 athletics and I'm too slow dismounted. But definatly have more survivability when I'm riding or just got my horse killed.

If I ever redo my build, Id probably go athletics 4+/- instead and 2 if.

Anyways, tell me what kind of Cav you want to be, than I can give better advise.
Don't mind the fish.

I would like to see Courser and Sarranid horse exchanging models. Only thing that draws me to Courser is its looks, Sarradin horse looks way to ugly imo. Also most lower tier horses seem like ponies, they are not in proportion with human models which is really funny because I can't think that anyone would hire designer who isn't able to draw things in proportion.

Oh wait, no shield? Possible, I don't use my shield most of the time.

But yet again, you are a ninja, so you probably know your way around.

Your build is a good hybrid, I'd suggest going heavy lance+a polearm to swing of your choice.
Once youve choicen which horse to use, you are good to go! Things will be tough in the low levels though.
Don't mind the fish.

I was hybrid lancer/polearmer. Had only 3 riding and 18/21 build (maxed PS, ATH and WM). 8 converted points and no shield. Shield will help you when you're facing skilled cavs like Ujin or Oberyn, actually it will save you from being killed because as a novice cav you have 10% chance to come out as a victor from that encounter. Against other cavs you go without shield, trying to hit them in the head before they hit you (I prefer side trust, going full frontal is too risky and random imo). Shield will also save you from pesky (horse)archers and throwers but they can be avoided (HAs less likely, damn those bastards). Against infantry shield isn't needed, of course.

Basically as a novice cav and smart player you'll do good against 70% of cavs who play on EU server. Most of them are either cowards (hitting your horse instead of you like that special Fallen guy khm khm) or not very smart or skilled (Turks, especially that OttomanSniper guy who gets lucky from time to time ). They are also many Shogunate members who are trying cavalry which you'll love to see coming towards you, of course Ujin is not one of them.

They are all purposely different sizes, just like different breeds of horse really were different in size, only specific breeds of horse were these huge tank looking mofos.
