Suggested New Feature: Hiding

I'd like to suggest that we give people the ability to hide on the Strat map.  Here's how I think it should work.

- It should only be available for armys of less than 50 troops
- You should only be able to hide if nobody from another clan can see you.  Neutrals and your own clan mates don't count.
- Once hidden you cannot move
- You will be discovered if an enemy gets within a certain distance of you.  I'd suggest 25% of the other persons look distance

Overall this would allow for a better raiding system as people will be able to get away more easily without being caught.  It would also help landless clans and neutrals once all the fiefs have been taken as having a fief to hide in wouldn't be so important.  It would also force the bigger clans to start patrolling their lands which means they can't have everybody recruiting and crafting.

I'm pretty sure you can't see as far into forests anyway so this should happen automatically

EDIT: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,18074.0.html

Look in details are there and you def can't see too far into forests.  I'm not entirely sure why Mountains and Hills have such high Look_in values though.  I would have thought that there would have been plenty of valleys, ravines and such to obscure you from sight in these areas.

I don't see how this is different?  I say hide, you say build a hideout.  Either way it achieves the same result so i'd be happy with chadz doing whichever is easier to code.

I think he means a permanent spot for hiding, could be something really awesome. You could even add the hideout maps from Native when you engage them in Strat Battle, almost no effort involved.

Bandit HQ, eh eh?

Together with HQ/Guild suggestion for town I came with this could be pretty awesome :D
This game isn't about being skillful as much as its about saying things in general chat that enrage people who then go to murder you but in their rage they make dumb mistakes which gets them killed.

In that case i'd like both hiding AND hideouts.

Hideouts to provide bases and hiding to help you run away

This is a good idea. I'm more a fan of continuous functions though, so rather than a hard cap at 50 people, you set it so that the more troops you have, the less benefit you get from hiding in terms of how close someone has to be to discover you. This can easily be set as a discount on your look_in vs their look_out. I'm sure chadz can come up with a fun pow() function.

As well, I've been thinking that it would be cool for armies to have some kind of sneak function. It would be similar to this idea, except that you can move, just a lot slower than normal and you can be discovered from a greater distance. This might help bandits set up position, or afford an attacking armor some element of surprise.

what about not moving for more than 1 hour puts you in hiding mode, and, depending on your troop amount, reduces the distance you can be seen from by half or more. Needs more thinking (and coding :P)

good idea. also is there a way to making your view ranges visible on the map so we know about how far we can see?
