I can't post this on our forums for some reason, getting an error, so I'm posting it here.
Pirates of the Burning SeaI played it for a few hours yesterday and I was really impressed, this game has a lot to offer. In short one could describe it as a bit simplified EVE (with pirates/sea combat). You have your character and you have your ship. When you're leveling you build your character skills as well as your character ship skills.
The game offers two types of combat:
Naval combatI found it really great. You control your ship with WASD and you have tons of stuff to do. You can attack their ship directly, or their sails to slow them down or even their crew before you board their ship. The ship has "armor" on all four sides and clever positioning is the key to victory. Once they break one of your armors down, the ships starts taking direct damage and can sink. You also have to keep monitoring the wind direction if you want to have any speed, for example sailing towards speed won't really move your ship. You can also change armor type of the ships and choose which cannons to fire with.
Where it gets even more fun is when you get close to a ship and align it well you can actually graple to it and assault with your crew, from where it switches to ˇ character combat. The success chance to graple is determined by how fast the ships go and how well you aligned your ship to theirs.
On top of all this, you can use special maneuvers and skills that you learn via levelin to execute special attacks or enhance your attack or maneuvering or something else.

loginCharacter (avatar) combatIt is basically the standard MMORPG hotbar combat, you target your enemy and you use skills from hotbar to kill them. Where this combat is different from others is that you also control your crew on ground and you use them to help you kill the enemy, which in my opinion is very interesting. The character combat either happens when you're on land/ports, where you have direct control of your character and can run freely around with him or when you assault another ship/base with your ship and you graple to them.

Basically you have four nations:
The Spanish
The Brits
The French
The Pirates
You choose one of the nations when you create your character and you then choose a class. If you choose either Spanish, British or French side, you can be a
Naval Officer,
Privateer or
Freetrader. If you choose Pirates, you can be either a
Cutthroat or a
Buccaneer. Each of those classes has unique skills.
As for the economy, it's completely player driven. This is where it gets really good. The world map has a lot of ports which can be conquered by one of the nations. Each of the ports provide a natural resource that can be farmed by the nation that has the control over that port. Each of those ports can also have a Governor who is a player who can set taxes and whatnot. You can initiate an attack on one of the enemy nations ports by killing people/npc around it which causes unrest. When this gets to a certain level, a 24v24 ship battle is started and the winning side gets the control of the port.
Once the port is in control, players can build structures on those island, that farm the resource of that island and/or manufacture goods.
Each player made item requires several steps to be crafted. First you have to build a warehouse on the resource island, then you have to build a number of structures that manufacture raw resources into something more and so on. Since there's a limit to how many buildings you can own, you have to rely on player trading and auction house. So technically you can't craft everything on your own, you might be able to specialize in one or two trades, but the rest of the items you'll have to get from other players. You learn this from tutorial, which does a good stuff teaching you about things.

The game is
free to play and doesn't have many restrictions for free players.
