This would be a useful  detail for anyone looking to maximize armor and weaponry without taking a penalty on speed.

What is the relationship between encumberance and strength?

None

All "armor" weight reduce your WPF, which in a side effect reduce your weapon speed.

Btw, check the sticky in that exact same forum you posted in, it's all written in there!

Formulas aren't handed out anymore for exactly that reason.

troll moar...  :P

quote from the sticky i've just spoke about in my last post...

" There is a decrease on WPP based on the weight of your armor, the formula is:
Total weight = Body armour + Leg armour + (Head armour)x3 + (Hand armour)x2

Where total weight is the amount of WPP decreased.

Important: Here is a perfect Link from Vargas, to calculate Armour and Wpf decrease: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,37.0.html "

Also forgot about movement speed, weight of ALL your equipment slow your movement speed.

Unless it has changed since the patch, weight of all equipment you have out affects speed.  Any holstered weapons/shields don't count.  So if you just need to run, put away that board shield and get out your scimitar.

When does this rumour die, holstered weapons/shields DO count. Not as much as you wield them but they still do.

Yeah, well you know, that's just like, your opinion, man.

Well like I said, I dunno about post patch, but I tested this extensively pre-patch and I can assure you, if it isn't in your hands it has NO affect on speed.  None.  I tested this theory with three siege ladders and a stop watch.  Not a rumor.

I was asking more about running speed and less about fighting speed.

I think I have observed that if your strength exceeds your loadout weight you are more or less "unencumbered" and will move as if you were naked and unequipped.

Don't troll me, bro. I searched for "encumberance."

EDIT: This is totally inaccurate. Found out the exact answer today and verified it.

It certainly does. Don't need a stop watch to see it, with 4 steel shields ladders or whatever I'm moving like through glue.

You cant sprint with ladder in your hand so your testing cannot be counted...

This test was done before the force-equip for ladders was implemented.

It certainly does. Don't need a stop watch to see it, with 4 steel shields ladders or whatever I'm moving like through glue.

If you had 4 then one was in your hand, I'm talking about stuff you have in your slots you aren't currently holding (i.e. holstered)

I could certainly be wrong about how it works now.  All I'm saying is, about two months ago when I tested it by having 3 siege ladders in my backup slots and nothing currently in hand, i ran just as fast as when I dropped all of them.  and when i took one out I was significantly slower.  timed myself running between two constant points that were a significant distance apart.

Is this why so many people at higher levels use lower grade armor or none at all?
