Hmm i remember me, i have tried it a few years ago.
I have logged in with my fresh charaqcter and got ganked shortly after.
And already i was out of the mood to invest more time in it.

Oh hey Samuel. Also guys Mercenaries aren't the best faction to pick on your first time it's a hard start. I suggest you go LED (Law Enforcement Department) or FDC (Freedom Defense Corps.) They both have great starting programs and are very active helping newbies. After you learn the basics you can switch to another faction using your Multicom in your apartment in Brooklyn.

A lot of reasons. A lot of FoM vets don't like where game is going from the first releases in 2005's and such. Some people don't like the game. Either love it or hate it. Also people may not play a lot due to slow patches although the dev team have been working on them really fast though so it's looking nice and also no advertising as of now.

This. And the fact that it has so much potential but needs more people and content to have more fun. Right now you either just fight or eco (craft) both can get boring after a while, especially if your new and dieing very easily in fights/getting ganked by bitter vets.

Socrates is right though, LED and FDC are easier for new players to gain the basics. Once you got that try going mercs for some combat experience or a Corporation to get rich (its not too hard to get alot of money). If you do eventually join a corp, join Eurocore ;)
