Heavy Bastard Sword / Longsword

Ok, somehow this has still been overlooked, or maybe you pay to not have a sheath and instead have a magical floating sword!

Heavy Bastard Sword

weight: 2 - Less chance of being weapon locked by heavier weapons, increased ability to do so to others.
difficulty: 10
speed rating: 98

weapon length: 105 - 1 Less reach
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut
slots: 2
Secondary Mode

5,480 - 1.2 k Cheaper, pretty clear cut

Longsword

weight: 1.8
difficulty: 10
speed rating: 98

weapon length: 106
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut
slots: 2
Secondary Mode

6,660

Summary

Ok, i'm biased here as i own a MW longsword and use it all the time, but the point stands. Why should i pay higher upkeep than someone using a weapon which is almost exactly the same? Realistically 1 length is about as useful as 0.2 weight, so why the higher price?

Paying for visuals or something?

Going by names why is the "long" sword only 106 length?

My point is that the extra 1.2k price really gives you nothing, seems an unnecessary expense.

You pay the 1.2k more so that you can have the longsword magically fly by your hip instead of having the Heavy bastard's sword sexy sheath.

Add 1 more cut and 1 more pierce damage to longsword and take away 1 speed from both HBS and longsword, now when katana is buffed it would really be a shame that longsword stays the same.

Also can someone make some sexy sheath for it?

Why take speed away. There are a lot of people that cant use katana cause of style.
Why shouldnt they be able to have fast weapons with decent damage.

Think the OP is using a microscope on this issue, and that I think these 2 swords are close to perfectly balanced.

On another note, I think the weapons are too similar. The stats for them should be shifted around a bit to make them more distinct.

Take some speed from the heavy bastard, and translate it into cut.
Take some cut from the longsword and put it to thrust.

At least then we'll have something like the mini-versions of DGS and GGS.

Make them more different from each other.

Oh and just to compare the katana to longsword once again:

No, I wish more weapons were more similar so they could pick looks over stats :(

I've spoken about this before Siiem.

The ideal is that they behave different, but are equally powerful..

Indeed thomek, i agree entirely the two weapons are completely the same.  which is why i'm confused by the price difference.

I like the suggestion for changing the the longsword and HBS to fulfil roles similar to short and faster DGS/GGS

Also the katana's abit irrelevant.

What you posted makes sense, the price difference is too much for how even the stats are.

Longsword

More weight is a disadvantage to me, more weight makes you move slower. Handheld weapons weight decreases your speed much more than a difference in armor weight. Still, it is very ridiculous that the heavy bastard sword is heavier than the longsword. If you just look at the models you'll see that the longsword is a bulky weapon, while the bastard sword is as thin as a razor.

You find the longsword better looking than the heavy bastard sword? How?

and they've been like this since the beginning, so whose fault is it casimir that u have a longsword and not a heavy bastard

lets see, oh wait its ur own

its really not much of an issue, their price difference doesn't actually equate to a very large upkeep difference, I've always felt their shouldn't even be THAT much of a difference between stuff like military scythes and glaives or shortened military scythes and GS for example, so this is inline with that

sounds more like buyers remorse

note, I've owned a MW longsword(and loved it), never owned the heavy bastard sword because I'm not a fatty, .2 weight isn't saving you from being stunlocked

I support this as well.

But something called Heavy Bastard Sword should definately look worse than Longsword, not the other way around.

I'm aware they've been like this a LONG time Kronic, the point was even raised back on taleworlds before people really cared about weapons and how powerful they are.

My point is what is the purpose in having two weapons ALMOST exactly the same in all ways but price, just seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to add more variation to equipment.

Besides i'm more than happy with the Longsword as a weapon and i prefer it to the HBS, so no remorse here.  I'm more interested in finding out what other people think about these weapons and whether there really is a point to them.
