 One of my loyal minions tell me DCUO is going f2p... If so I'm going to assemble a supervillain group and start playing again. (being a villain is more fun cos everyone roles heroes... I will be trolling them as they leave the police station xD)

Free to play is never actualy free to play...

They cripple you with premium content you cant have, or they introduce that shitty real money market and then $ wins over skill
Defy me, and you will know what it is to stand against a god.

Oh, I actually bought this game when it came out, leveling was fast and the game was not half bad actually... combat system is hack&slashy with combos. It just got boring quite fast. Not a bad game at all, though.

DCUO is a bit more skill based than most MMOs, also runs on Unreal Engine, so looks nice. Hopefully they will make the £ come from aesthetic gear (there's a hell of a lot of vanity involved) but you are probably right. Anyhow, I cancelled my sub a few days ago, so this news is pretty welcome and I'd recommend anyone else to try this.

Oh right.

No I've never played them, I assumed they'd be like all other generic MMO's and I didn't like p2p MMO's. But yeah if I did I'd be a villain!

It was quite fun and i liked the levelsystem via the archievments ooh and the costume system where i could wear wat i wanted.
But the grind has kicked in too fast. At the end i have done the same task every day for some items only to have acces to another task, where could grind other items.

If the proposition of buying DC Universe Online and then paying a monthly fee has been keeping you away from Sony Online Entertainment's MMO, prepare to enter Gotham City next month. In October, DC Universe Online goes free to play.

Both PlayStation 3 and PC players will be able to download and play the game for free. Three tiered levels will act as the game's revenue source from there along with in-game microtransactions. Here's the official breakdown from SOE.
Free
New players will now have access to the current gameplay in DC Universe Online (including Gotham City, Metropolis, and all current raids and alerts), with the ability to create two characters, join a league and many other benefits. Free level players will be able to purchase downloadable game packs/updates, additional character slots, powers and more through microtransactions.

Premium
Any player who has spent at least $5 (including former paid subscribers and new players who have purchased $5 of in-game items) will qualify for the Premium access level. Premium level players will have more benefits available to them than the Free level player, including additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits. Downloadable adventure packs, additional character slots, and more can be purchased in-game.

Legendary
Maximum features and benefits are included at this level. Loaded with enhanced additional features, Legendary access will be available for a $14.99 monthly fee and includes all DLC packs at no cost, more than 15 character slots, more than 80 inventory slots, the ability to form unrestricted-sized leagues, and many other benefits.
If you've already paid for a PC lifetime subscription or a PS3 plan, that deal still stands when this switch happens in late October. This event also marks the end of DCUO's auto-renew feature. In the past, the game would automatically resubscribe you when your subscription lapsed. That's over now – a result of the more than 40 percent of people who quit EverQuest II and complained about the auto-renew in a SOE survey.

What brings it down is the WoW-structure and the class dynamics. The combat is excellent -- in fact I'll go ahead and say that it's the best MMO combat system out there, but it's completely fucked by the Scrapper>Healer>Tank>Scrapper. The rock-paper-scissors of the roll/lunge/combo/block is excellent and really dynamic, but if you're up against the class that is inherently designed to wtfpwn you it's like "oh you're xxx class? I guess I have to run away since I'm completely fucking useless against you." Really retarded. The WoW PvE system is pretty fucking gay too. I had 300 hours logged in the game before I unsubbed.

The most balanced fighting in the game is the Legends Arena, where you (ironically) don't even play your character. It's all about your personal skill versus your opponent, without all the dependent BS of class roles. Even then they have trouble balancing the different archtypes but it's as close as balanced gets.

By scrapper you mean control role? There is also the damage role to throw in there, the one that every starts of with before they unlock their inherent power role. Damage roles got no rock or scissors to their paper. Also it's about teamwork.
