Actually, this could be an interesting deterrent for people who choose to retreat from battle. Certain percentage of chance for capture if retreating. Then lock the player down for a set amount of time where he can't attack of be attacked until somebody else comes over to his location and pays a set amount which will go to the player that captured him. That amount would probly be best set by a formula of how many troops and what equipment he had when he chose to retreat. So retreating with a large heavily armed army could be a costly or time consuming choice

There actually is no reason to retreat really, unless massively outnumbered or your army was just there to lock down someone else. In a normal battle it is almost always better to fight till the bitter end, retreating to avoid capture might be a more interesting mechanic.

I would like something like this.
It would be good if it took into account a few things though. Obviously this only applies to the battle commanders. Applying it to everyone would be a bit much.

1) If you do not die during the whole battle then the % chance of capture should be 0%.

2) Each time you die in the battle the chance of your being captured should increase by X%

3) If you are killed by a blunt weapon this X% should be increased by a factor of Y.

4) You should be able to be captured for up to a week. You should be able to pay a ransom to get out at the captors discretion. Alternatively if you have not been deposited inside a fief or if the fief you are deposited in is taken over by someone else you are free. So long as your new captor releases you...

5) You can still participate in battles as a mercenary if you are captured but you should not be able to make any actions on the strategus map.

6) Their should be a low random% chance to escape at all times or every tick or whatever.

make fief raids free prisoners

The times killed is a good idea.. But would need a flat chance to capture people who retreat without fighting
