2nd one still looks best to me out of Izu's, with no skulls

I think we should only have one kind of device on the banner either a helm, flamberge, skull or whatever. The skull + flamberge dont quite look right

What about Black banner, White/Yellowish skull with a golden crown?

I was working on some banners and I missed your post, I would have tried something with that crown+skull because flamy+skull is killing me... ;D

But my work won't go to waste, I'll at least give some previews: :P

O actually those are pretty good Njunja. I had an idea of glowing/ruby eyes in my mind but didnt type it.

I like #4, 6 and 8 the best

After much testing, editing my conclusion is this: simle is always better. I've been trying to make something cool with the background and it turned out that the best solution is a simple plain dark BG color. The main reason is the low res of banners in Warband, there isn't much "space" for making cool stuff and variations in colors.

I'm presenting a preview of this banner which looks far best in game (on armors, flags, player avatars...):

Njunja is quite right. You can still keep the cool banner as your real banner, but the simpler banners just look best ingame.
