I know a couple of people who (Allegedly) have straw hats (names are disclosed since I WANT to be the only demand) and that means that because I am demanding, the supply is greater than the demand causing a "competition" meaning that there is no monopoly.

Also, due to the fact that basically everyone has the chance to get everything, it creates a sort of "perfect market situation" which damned near impossible in the real world because there are too many different things that can give an advantage. Unforunately me, just wearing a straw hat really doesn't give it any special properties other than the fact that "it attracts aggressive people" that attempt to kill me, but that's because of my whole outfit, not just because of my hat.

Therefore in my eyes, I have the only demand and the supply is greater for something that is worth a lot less than something more useful, pushing the price down, and if that's not the case, then I will push the price down anyway.

Yes however because it's a fairly useless item, the price drops since people can get rid of it. Basic economics states that if the demand for something is low then the price will inevitably drop so that the seller can get rid of the item regardless of what the cost was to get it.
Also, these days 26 million exp is practically nothing and during my trading career which was cut short during my uni exams, i've not bought anything for "near" 1 million, even trading for other people I have managed to secure x2 items for lower than the market asking price just by negotiating.

You can never take anything at face value or you'll end up looking the fool as someone walks away having taken 1 million gold off you for something as worthless as a straw hat. As much as I would like to keep to the myth, my money is also valuable to my clan mates. We're the Caravan Guild after all, although most of us are millionaires (granted that's not hard these days)

It's not that a +3 straw hat is useless why it's expensive, it's that it took 3 retirements and 3 loom points that could have went into something else.  People sell loom points for about 450k each nowadays.  Why would someone take a shit deal just to hook you up with a straw hat?

And 26 million is a lot.  I just retired my first time and it took me about 3 months to do so (only playing a couple nights a week).

One can grind up 1mil-2.5mil xp in a day depends on multiplier luck, sadly my good sir, retirement system isnt for casuals.
Also with some patience you can get loom points for 350k-400k.

I'm not talking about the people willing to use three heirlooms to get there, i'm talking about the people who've already done it thinking that it'll be something fun to do, and are now stuck going "oh, well now I have this stupid hat."

Without sounding aggressive or derogatory you're not in a massively good position to talk about retirements and how long they take. You've hit your first gen, which is the slowest and the hardest, each gen (up until 11) gets faster and faster so 26 million is less and less. I personally have gone through 11 (technically 12 since i'm no longer retiring) generations so far and it's a lot faster therefore decreasing the slug towards that 26 million mark.

My final point, you can get loom points for less than that if you know the right people and you're able to work out deals or wait for a bit of time.

Heh, i'll take a look, I have to apologise for rushing off from our negotiations however, I was rather busy and it was heading nowhere fast so I thought "i'll be an arse and cut it".

At the time I had to get my Grandfather from hospital, who ironically had been hit by a car as well, he was knocked off his motorbike by someone who didn't look right when they came out of a turning. It runs in the family apparently, hatred for cars.

EDIT: Aaaah screw it POOP, i'm having that hat. Can't be arsed to negotiate, have some money.

That now means I am looking for 2 heirloom points to boost it up to a x3 heirloom.
