Well it's all subjective and opinions but what the hell, I'll bite:
While technically sound and proficient I'm just not much of a fan of the major scale rifmy old friende done at high speed. Sounds too... up-beat I guess is the best way to describe it. Even minor scale riffing, while darker and quite full of melody and harmonics, has become a bit worn out in my old age. I tend to prefer more jazz phrasings and off-color/darker emotions in my music (phrygian mode for intance is a personal fave of mine) Still the musicians are solid, so i give them credit for that. The leads are executed well.
The vocal stylings as well seem a bit cliche' and aren't really to my taste, though I have definately heard worse. Though I'm fairly picky about what I consider a good vocalist, it's not a game-breaker for me as I listen mostly for the instrumental and emotional content and as long as the vocals aren't atrocious I can for the most part overlook them altogether. Lyrical content I won't judge on because not every song from every band is going to be a mind-bending dissertation driven by deep thoughts about the nature of society, god, the universe, politics, etc.
TLDR: Not my cup of tea, but the musicianship is solid so I'll give them 3.5 / 5 horns
\m/.
A personal favorite band of mine in the progressive/metal genre's. I've seen them twice, and absolutely love their sound. Vocals aren't the absolute top of my list, but they serve the music quite well and again I listen more for the emotion within music:
