Yep we took quite the beating from the Turks, but ultimately the invasion was halted and we survived with our religion and western mentality and culture. Which cant be said for the rest of the region.

The siege of Szigetvár and the depictions of the epic last cavalry charge out of the city inspired all of Europe back then. A defeat ultimately but a moral victory

As it was said back then by the pope Leo X the title  "Antemurale Christianitatis" which Croats got in 1519. for defending christian Europe. The deed is largely forgotten now but i guess you would have half of central Europe as muslims if the "wall" fell. Gárdonyi did the same with the Siege of Eger, where approx.. 2000 defenders won against 40.000 turks.

He exaggerated the turk army size to 200.000 in his book, what is now a classic.

Still 2k v 40k is an amazing victory to be honest.

Also my friend, we were the Shields of Christianity for sure. Without our ancestors, the Austrians would've met a much more stronger Turkish force, and maybe Vienna would fall in their hands.

austria is the point i said. We crushed through germany but noone appeared to fight with us so we turned back. We took Uyvar which was the in habsburg castle in slovakia.
