One statement + Two critical questions

It's historically and physically proven that composite bows and crossbows lose velocity with getting wet. It's because the Horn arch and its composits dont grip that good on eachother anymore and the strength of the weapon it decreases..

1.) Why does the rain penalty for crossbows effect metallic crossbows (heavy crossbow; arbalest) too?

2.) Why does rain penalty not effect composite bows (Nomad-, Tatar-, Horn-, Rus Bow) ?

its just frustaiting. im fully crossbowman, i have to make my kills with my arbalest. if the map changes and its heavyly raining and foggy (and its rainy and foggy a lot) my moral drops immidiatly because i cant do anything for at least 5 rounds. when its raining you cant even kill a peasant on 5 metres with a arbalest..

I don't really know if the weather component affects the string of the ranged weapon or more likely to the air density variable, so final travel and damage of the bolt/arrow delivered is lowered (more air friction due to dampness).

+1 because basic logic should still apply.

Basic logic is also two handers cutting pikes and longspears in half when they block, but we don't have that, do we?

Rain soaks the bow string, weakening it. Bows are supposed to be less affected by this because you can easily unstring a bow and keep the string dry. Crossbows can't be unstrung as easily and so are more affected by it.

Best answer.
/thread.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

I read that it was the strings which were effected. so a archer could unstring his bow whereas a crossbow man couldn't, hence why the british had this advantage in the battle of crecy.

I've started putting on full plate and bringing a reg crossbow and 2 slot 2h whenever it rains now.  Just concentrate on melee a bit more while your xbow is gimped.
I don't know how you can watch with_stupid, every time i see him play i want to put infants in a blender.

QFT.  Just like blocking a lance thrust from horseback, just like being able to block an overhead from behind.

-1 for playing realism card in a game

Rain lowers crossbow effectiveness because the developers were trying to add realism to the game. Like it or not, the realism card was played long ago.
