Backstabbing is certainly part of diplomacy.  Honor has it's place when it benefits you.  When it does not, then you abandon honor for your best interests.  Seems like basic logic and strategery.

In the strictest sense, honor and morality have no purpose in strategy.  Your best interests should always be what you do in a completely lawless world.  That being said, being dishonorable for a short term gain isn't always in your best interests when other factions can no longer hold you at your word, or when they decide to come back after you down the road when you're not expecting it.
