Poophammer sold the heirloom before the guy posted this thread. Seeing the steal online, Poop took it, and turned a profit from it.

If he were contacted before he made the sell off, and he still did it, it's poor form.

HOWEVER, Poop did not know and the guy didn't post in time. From my perspective it was simply good business at the time, and it's sad that the sell off was made before he could be contacted, but nothing can come of it now.

'Rational' and 'kind' aren't the same thing.  Returning the item, in fact, would be irrational insofar as it would be an unnecessary cost for no tangible benefit; keeping the item is perfectly rational.
