Stupid word of the month: chamber

Seriously who started using this word?

When people say the word 'chamber' ignorantly, what they really mean is RIPOSTE

Start using the correct term!

The only thing that remotely makes sense is referring to held attacks (weapon is pulled back and ready to swing) as 'chambers'.  In reference of loading a round into the chamber of a gun it is 'ready to be fired'.

Well shit. I'm saying riposte now.

I guess it's because it's a French term xD

You shouldn't even try "Use the correct term!" in this mod. Nobody will listen :P

"In fencing, the riposte (French for "retort") is an offensive action with the intent of hitting one's opponent, made by the fencer who has just parried an attack."

But this is Mount and Blade. Here you just attack in the same direction, you don't actually parry it (right click).

just illustrates another incorrect use of terms.  weapons dont 'block' they parry.

A successful parry and counterattack is what a Riposte is, not 'chamber'

Again, this is Mount and Blade. When you chamber, you don't parry first, you just attack in the same direction, which happens to cancel out the opponent's attack.

When you riposte in M&B you hear the clang of a parry and you continue with your counter-attack against the enemy.  There is no riposte button, its a correctly timed attack in the proper direction that will parry an incoming attack and immediately counter-attack

They use the word chamber, because it refers to the block, not the subsequent attack. The complete term would be chamberblocking, but most people can't be arsed to type it out completely.
You block the attack by chambering your weapon. Hence the name.
The attack that follows is just a normal attack as far as the game is concerned.

The fencing term would be a parry, followed by a riposte (stating the obvious, I know).

In short:
A chamber would be the block by chambering your weapon in a certain direction.
A ripost would be the attack that follows.

The problem is even if you are number 1 in NA you are still only number 467 in EU or the worst in AUS(number 17)

word of the month? hehe, using the therm started roughly in autumn 2009 during the warband beta, when test and others had the idea and persuaded the devs of it. "Chamber" referrs to the game mechanism, you have to "chamber" an attack (ready it) at the right time to chamber-block the hit.

Weapons dont block, they parry.  A parry followed by immediate counter-attack (1 motion basically) is a Riposte.

You try to overhead me, I deflect your weapon just enough so it wont hit me (parry), and I continue my motion coming down into your head.  Thats a riposte, not a made up word 'chamber'.

And again, you do not actually block it, the attack is cancelled!

The riposte would be actually using your right mouse button and attacking in the same direction you just blocked right after, otherwise it's a chamber because you don't actually see yourself pressing right click.

In warband beta there were 2 kinds of parries, the block and an animated "parry" which was later taken out.
Chamber I don't know I guess it just came from shooters (attack ready) and since it's so inspectacular to just ready your attack, it came to mean chamberblock.
