Repairs? (How do they work?)

So... how do repairs work if you turn off auto-repair... Will the gear keep getting crappier and crappier and become useless? Or could you ewar black armour that has at least decent usage completely broken?

As for the stats, -1 almost made no difference for weapons or armors, since it's only a few points lowered damage and armor. But for a -2 weapon, it starts lowering speed rating and damage even more.

Red Coat of Plates was 50 armor originally, now at ruined state (-3), it's only 30. What's 30? A studded leather coat, but with the weight of 19.5 instead of 5.

If an item is at unusable state, it won't disappear, you just won't be able to use it until it's repaired.

And it only charges you the same amount of repair from unusable back to normal (from -3/-4 to 0), if you can put up with the disadvantage, that means you saved three to four times the repair fee.

This is very helpful, and really makes me reconsider auto-repair.

Please take note, that auto-repair repairs an item to its 'original' state.

So, let's say you have a already Battered Shield, and then you turned on Auto-Repair, saved it, in-game if your Battered Shield turned into Unusable Shield, it will only repair it to Battered Shield instead of Normal Shield. Make sure you repair everything manually unless they're all in normal state, then you can turn on auto-repair again.

How do repairs work for heirlooms?

I only have a single +1 heirloom now and with autorepair off it is damaged like this:
(+1) Heavy Steel Pick > (+0) Steel Pick > (-1) Chipped Steel Pick > etc..

So with a +3 heirloom, does it go
(+3) Deadly Steel Pick > (+2) Balanced Steel Pick > (+1) Heavy Steel Pick > (-0) Steel Pick > (-1) Chipped Steel Pick > etc..
or
(+3) Deadly Steel Pick > (+0) Steel Pick > (-1) Chipped Steel Pick > etc..

The answer to this will effect my upcoming first MW heirloom purchase, thx in advance.

The repair cost is always calculated off of the base item cost, so a Longsword will have the exact same repair cost as a Masterwork Longsword.

Thanks for the response Tears :)

I wasn't really asking about repair costs though..  What I am wondering is if I get a +3 masterwork item, if it will degrade to first to +2, then +1 OR if it goes +3 straight to +0.  I would hate to have to spend 1,000,000 gold to find the answer.

Yes. Everytime a weapon breaks it will degrade a step, and Heirloomed items add steps.

I don't have any Black Armor, so I don't know what the exact penalties are for each break level on it, but if each heirloom level adds another "break level", then +3 Black Armor can break 6 times before being reduced to unusable condition. I did a quick number crunch a few weeks ago and...

Black Armor repairs for about 2400 gold normally. However, if you let it break 6 times before you have to repair it then it costs about 400 gold per break. For comparison, a Heavy Bastard Sword repairs for 386 (?) gold.

I wouldn't try to get my hands on +3 Black Armor, though. It's an easy way to LOSE gold if a patch suddenly eliminates manual repair.

Quick question, if I had say, a MW longsword and I disabled auto repair, and it got damaged. It went to balanced and I had no money to repair it. Would I be able to repair it back to the state of heirloom it was at before?
