im curious as to what options people use for melee fighting, such as i assume you shouldn't use automatic blocking, but is it better to use movement keys to direct attacks or the mouse movement?

everyone I know both attacks and blocks with the mouse. The servers force manual blocking so setting automatic won't do anything.

I use mouse movement to block and keyboard to attack, but as stated above, everyone I know uses only mouse movement.
I guess mouse is the way to go, I'm just used to this.

Inverted mouse movement feels much more natural. You actually move the mouse to the side you want to swing the blade, not the side you want to chamber it. It makes the combat much more fluid in my opinion. When you fight with inverted mouse movement the combat sequence is like this "mouse movement+click" while if you use the standar mouse movement its like "mouse movement+click+mouse movement".
