Good 1H weapons combined with shield?

Hi all,

When I retire, I will go for a 27/12 Shield+1H. The main use would be to try to survive as much as possible in battles/sieges while I'm in the middle of the action, so not for dueling. I have several questions about the 1H weapon combined with a shield:

1) Which weapons would be better to effectively spam-attack an enemy just after I have blocked his first attack?

2) What do you think it is better and WHY: A weapon with long reach (typically with cut dmg?), or with high pierce damage (against heavy armor?), or with the ability to knockdown (despite the lower blunt dmg, and no clue if knockdown in 1H would work great)?

Iberian mace if you want blunt trauma, but with a 27 12 build you are going to want something with reach. Go for the long espada. The pierce dmg on that weapon with your 9 powerstrike would be horrible. Its also quite fast(99 speed i think) and a good 103 length.

I'd say Arabian Cavalry Sword for the damage.

Elite Scimitar is one of best sword's, it's fast and deals huge damage.

Everyone can offer a different weapon but we can understand what u need with some times.With some duels againts different type players and etc.

As Abay hints at (though a fog of recruitment overtures), different weapons suit diferent situations. I'd suggest buying several 1h weapons. You may want a mid-tier cheaper weapon for the farming of gold, to go along with mid-tier armor. You'll probably want to be have access to good quality blunt weapons to knock people down. Axes are very helpful, for the rape shields and do lots of damage per swing.

I'd suggest buying one really good axe, one or two really good swords (maybe one with good reach and damage, and one with lots of speed? Maybe one with good thrust, and another with good cut?), and one really good blunt weapon.

The elite scimitar, or even regular scimitar, are good weapons. Even with low WPF you'll land hits, for they are fast, hard to track weapons with good cut damage. The knightly long arming sword is also good, with high reach and damage, though the regular long arming sword is much cheaper, and only does like one less point of damage.

An axe, to fight back other shielders.

And something to fight unshielded infantry, it's up to your preferance.

long arming sword/long espada are good, as it was said, 9PS and a long espada stab is indeed scary.

Indeed, I see that there are a lot of different opinions on the main 1H weapon to use (that must be good, as it makes the game feel very balanced ). At least, having an axe against other shielders seems to be a good option.

For the other 1H weapon, I think I will have to try myself all of them: The blunt ones like Iberian mace, the piercing ones like the military pick and the long ones with "normal" cut dmg, like arabian cavalry sword... And check what fits better to my play style, hahaha.

I don't suggest you a 27/12 shield. I tried that build yesterday and I feel so slowly and without enough shield skill. With shield skill 4, archers can hit you shooting weak spots (head, foot). Otherwise, you can play with a 27/12 but wearing low armor and low weight shield like elite cavalry.

IMO 21/15 and 24/15 are the best STR shielder build.

I agree, you get access to a few better shields (ie. Huscarl) with 15 Agility plus an extra athletics (for shorter weapons like axes and picks). For weapons i personally like the following
Italian Sword-Good all around sword, not to expensive either
Grosse Messer- Fast, strong, but with low reach and little thrust damage
Broad One Handed Battle Axe(my personal favorite)-Hits hard, tears through shields, but low reach and speed is not remarkable
Steel Pick-Fast, strong, pierce damage(tin can opener), VERY SHORT, people will complain about you having no skill

All in all, it is up to you, these are just the ones i have had the most success with myself, i agree with Christo saying that you should carry two weapons, but it can be a little expensive to maintain two weapons(i went through a massive period of gold loss when i had Italian Sword+Steel Pick, i was wearing very heavy gear on top of that).

For shields, i currently use the Heavy Kite Shield, it has good durability, body armor and size, all for only one slot, it is quite thin though. The Huscarl is good(very large, durable lower than the heavy kite though, very good body armor) especially if paired with the pick(they can't see your attacks as easily).

But just choose what you like best in the end.

Ok, I see you mentioned that you would try that build here, so it's good to read your feedback (I was pretty convinced that it wouldn't matter to have 1 less in athletics and just a lvl 4 shield). ¡Gracias!
