Any kind of a artificial formation setting would be pretty terrible for warband even if it could be done. If you just press a button and it does the job for you you are going into the realm of MMOs where you don't actually need to do the fighting yourself. What is great about M&B is that if you want to do something you need to do it manually, same for creating and holding a formation instead of pressing one button and having it do the the work for you.

1) all hoplites moves together without breaking the linked shieldwall 2) they can atack with spears without breaking and openning linked shields. So they become like one organism.
It's like making the game look a bit like World of Warcraft: "Press a button to autoattack" etc. We don't need it in the kind of games like cRPG.
