I always found it silly comparing us with all those countries as the US practicly holds as much citizens as all those combined. Bet the nobel prize per number of citizens is relatively way lower though, but hey, from all those braindead rednecks atleast one in a billion is a smartass :D

Plot twist: All those people who won nobel prize in US are European immigrants...
Tseng: Used to the bitter taste of refusal, this only serves to reinforce his greatest life lession yet.
Cloud: And that is?
Tseng: Bitches, man.

I wish I grew up on metric but I didn't so now i'm stuck scratching my head when I think about the metric system. Then I just convert and carry on without any more thought.

I think airplanes always use feet, don't they? Not sure...

Wonder why they keep imperial values for length, weight and stuff when they use metric for current, voltage, power and a bunch of other "physics".
Would be easier to generalize to metric overall, I guess.

Yes in aviation speed and distance is in notated in knots and nautical miles and altitude is in feet.  This is international (ICAO) as well as domestically in the US.

Technically united states is union of 50 separate states. You can not compare union of 50 separate states to one state or country. That is immensely stupid.

It could not have happened in every country, otherwise, there would not be any other ones. Try to think for a moment.

Your point? Are we europeans priding ourselves as superior to Africans?

Most euro countries were amalgamated from a collection of separate states during their history.  You are immensely stupid not to think so.

Did the US cease to be a country, no, the dominant culture and population changed.  Thererfore it could and did happen in most other countries.  It's not a unique criticism for the USA.

I'd say that about the same percentage (if not a greater percentage) of Europeans pride themselves in being superior to everyone than Americans that pride themselves in being superior to Europeans.

This. So much this. Here in Europe we barely manage to import brains from Africa, while the US grabs the rest.

Metric system isn't hard at all. You've got your base term like meter or gram. The rest of the terms are some positive or negative multiple of 10. Schools spend too much time trying to get you to learn them all. All you need to know is milli (1/1000), centi(1/100), and kilo(1000) mostly.
What is hard is conceptualizing those values when you grew up with feet and pounds.  What the hell is 30 centimeters? Its a foot, but if it isn't something nice and even like that, you are back to doing a conversion in your head.

That's because if you compare apples to apples in terms of numbers, i.e whole of EU vs US, the only area where the US is superior is in military spending and leeching talented people from developped and developping countries. Don't even get me started on HDI. All the excuses about how it's so obviously different for the US because it's a giant country of 300 million people suddenly don't apply when you compare it to an area of 500+ million people though, because reasons. EU might have it's Greeces and Portugals, but I'd take those over some decrepit southern or central US state any day of the week. Ironically enough it's always those states that spend vastly more federal money than they bring in who are always touting state rights and independence, Texas being the notable exception, mostly because of it's ginormous arms and oil industry. Although tbf Texas is also a center for other industrial goods and services.

Not to mention the language barrier added to the EU.
