Insanely fast poleaxes? Mister katana complaining about the speed of the slower polearms? I guess you can't just spam a better player who uses a slower weapon because he knows what he's doing. Your spam should always kill, because a katana user should be able to do anything. Such a shame
1st of all this thread is full of bs and quite entertaining.
Mr. Can't read. Are you saying that you have never seen a poleaxe be chambered behind the wielder, then next frame you are dead. At least with 2h you can see some kind of swing animation. I'm abusing this myself with the lhb atm. Getting in unbelievable hits at long range.
Back on topic, there are and have always been, in my opinion, a huge benefit to long weapons of almost all kinds in crpg. (balance wise)
Look at 2h greatswords, polearmswings with greataxes, hoplites. They are everywhere.
Long range=power
That power is not accounted for in the weapon stats. Since long weapons would often have great momentum, damage should be high. There is one stat left then, and that is speed.
Speed is where long weapons should have to pay for the sake of balance and variety. So what weapon should one balance around? I'd say the longsword, which is fast, elegant, medium damage, medium length. (And historically well researched and recognized as a great weapon.) Also one should not balance around duelability, which becomes a rarer and rarer battlefield thing anyway these days.
