Naw tis true. Japan had all sorts of guerilla fighting and to the death stuff if the allies planned to invade Japan. Part of the reason the Atomic weapons were used. That's, to this day, a still argued whether right or wrong action. No one knows the ifs, but we surely do speculate.
I was actually talking to a teacher&student over here from japan recently about this, on the beach haha.
yeah he said japan would never surrender, US could not take japan by land so they nuked. this wasn't a boast just what he thought to be true. I think he even said he thought the nuking nessesary to end war even tho he had close family who died in it.
what was most interesting was that he said its common knowledge in japan that the generals who ordered pearl harbour bombed, openly declared war on the american government and gave them warning. US kept it quiet and used it to "trick" world into thinking it a surprise attack/illegal war etc. to justify stopping japan from "liberating" asia from the west (aka invading western colonies in asia).
although japanese weren't really liberating those asian colonies they were comminiting attrocities, really wouldnt surprise me part about US governments deception was true.
