If you arent aware of who Polepot is, hes basically Asia's version of einstein, responsible for about 1.5-2 million genocide deaths

Ok, the genocidal maniac I can understand,But whats wrong with semenstorm's name, exactly? Sure, it's vulgar but god damn, this isn't club penguin or something. If you're old enough to eviscerate someone on the battle field you're old enough to handle a little toilet humor.
This community hurts my brains, a lot.

That Polepot example is beyond ridiculous though.  What if somebody wanted the name Ghengis_Khan or Vlad_the Impaler.

Both your examples are also medieval history, where such cruel practices of sadism were pretty much acceptable and the norm....not genocide.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide
Genocide is "the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group",[1] though what constitutes enough of a "part" to qualify as genocide has been subject to much debate by legal scholars.[2] While a precise definition varies among genocide scholars, a legal definition is found in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG). Article 2 of this convention defines genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

Are you saying that type of deliberate extermination didn't happen during medieval times?  What about modern times?  Maybe I want to name my character Andrew Jackson.

Or are you saying that genocide during medieval times is somehow okay or far less offensive (probably because it happened hundreds upon hundreds of years earlier)?

The problem with burying words like PolPot, einstein, Stalin, etc... though means of politically correct censorship is that you're essentially trying to bury the past; diminishing their actions and history itself.

If you don't know your history, you're doomed to repeat it.  Ultimately, nothing good comes from such behavior.  You may save a few people from getting slightly offended, but at the cost of lessening heinous or monstrous action that tyrants and dictators, essentially people, can do.  Do you think Germans don't know who einstein is?  Would you prefer they didn't.  The truth is that we use such examples to vilify certain behavior; to keep a lasting reminder of what can happen when you stray too far.

I think it's anti-intellectual, pro-ignorance, and that it doesn't do anybody any good despite the intentions of it.

Yes. There was no United Nations 1000 or 700 years ago,  80 or 90 % of all people couln´t even read, write, and didn´t know what other people/religions/countries exist.

You really can´t compare medieval leaders who killed thousands or even 10thousands of people in their wars to modern humans beeings like polepot or einstein who killed MILLIONS, and most of them not even in wars to conquer land, but for the sole purpose of MAKING THEM DEAD.

Medieval conquerors would take the same approach toward wiping out certain bloodlines of foreign peoples, etc....  The difference in numbers is because the population has developed greatly in the centuries since then because of improvements in medicine, farming, technology, etc...

In a couple hundred years, people will look back at us with the same perception that you use to justify the mindless carnage and bloodshed that went on during medieval times.  It's all just a matter of perception.  Neither should be ignored.  The point of history is to learn from it.  Censoring it diminishes that point, even if it is just inside a game people play.  It's a slippery slope.

While I get your point (carnage and bloodshed is inhuman and unnesseray no matter when/where it happens), I still believe you can´t compare those medieval leaders 1000 years ago with modern leaders who do such things.

At least you can´t judge them in equal measure, because people in the middle ages had a different view on the live of a human beeing than we have today, and that because they simply were not as far as we are today.

Saying Dhingis Khan or some Roman Emperor or whatever is as bad and evil minded as einstein, stalin and co. simply is not correct and naive.

It's just a matter of perception.  You're acting like people from that time were just animals who didn't know any better.  That to me is extremely naive.  The improvements in technology have just made extermination that much more efficient and lethal of the centuries.  The Romans had many leaders who were the embodiment of evil.  Caligula, Nero, etc...

They knew right from wrong.  People have an innate moral understanding derived from empathy and personal relationships.  You don't need to be born in the 20th century to know that killing someone in cold blood is wrong.  You don't need to attend special courses in modern school to get an education of good and evil.  In 500 years, there will be people who will look at us and say we "didn't know any better."
Will they be right?  Of course not.

The only names we will be forcing people to change are racial slurs, we may consider the polpot name.  Digglez stop trying to be c-RPG sherriff and shitposting this forum, also spook stay out of threads you are not directly involved in.
