Lances are indestructible in cRPG which makes them way overpowered. The damage they deal should be mirrored to the lance which should have like 100-200 hp depending from the lance. This would make them less overpowered and it would force people to actually think who to kill instead of killing people who are AFK.

You mean they degrade in their efficiency and damage as they are used each round? i think thats a good idea to slightly nerf cav while also making cav go for the more threatening enemies such as tin cans.

Not really. Lances in crpg aren't tournament lances which are designed to shatter. These are the same as any other polearm from that point of view. Therefore all polearms/weapons with a wooden shaft should have a chance of breaking it this was added.

Some have metal nails to reinforce them, and most poles are made of rather sturdy wood.

Lances aren't swung by footmen, there's the horse to take into account.

The same as lances  :?

You made me really curious, how do lances work? I assumed that if they hit an infantry guy, they'd die and the lance would break/be discarded since it's lodged into a guy.

Then I shall assume the same for any other polearm that has safely lodged itself in armour and flesh.

Lance on the back of a horse, there's all the energy of the horse behind the blow, hence why the lance break.

Assumption. It doesn't have to break.

Besides, 2H sword going through the wooden shaft of a polearm...guess what's going to happen.

Mmmm hardened wood, hitting on the the metal parts, besides noone block like in Warband IRl, that's dumb.

Edit: You don't even need a 2 handed sword, I've done very scientific test on wooden pole using a sharp arming, friend held the pole in the air, I smashed, it broke, but that was shitty wood, you could break the pole on your knee, you shouldn't be able to break a lance on your knee, as far as I know.

Again assumption. Which is why this is a realism discussion and not game balance.

There's a huge difference between stabbing somebody from the ground and stabbing somebody from a horse, assuming that the horse is moving

If you add a chance for lances to break, also add a chance for the lance to get nooked into someone's armor or ribcage, so you pick an enemy (or teammate) up on the edge of your lance and drag their soon to be lifeless body across the map.

My posting is like a katana folded 1000 times to perfection.. and the community is what keeps the edge sharp.. and bloody.  -  Me.

Lances are pierce weapons right? So with more force, technically you have a cleaner/smoother pierce. Which would decrease the chances of a lance breaking in comparison to it being thrust by a footman who might not have had enough force to pierce the armor, causing the lance to break. Which also leads to the question, does it take more force to pierce armor or to break a lance? If it is the later, then lances should almost never be broken from piercing armor, regardless of the force. It would make more sense to have the lances just get stuck into the corpse with the option of manually pulling it back out for re-use with a SLIGHT chance of the lance breaking on top of this. I think the most important factor in whether or not a lance breaks is the angle it is being thrust at.

Make a random chance the horse breaks instead of the lance
