its not only about the 'maul' its the fact that a plated guy outruns a piker

It sounds about right. You are looking at the situation from a biased perspective, complaining that a full plate 3 ath person with a great maul running forward is faster than you can backpedal with 8 athletics and a 300 length pike.

If you want to actually use your 8 athletics to your advantage, try equipping a shorter weapon because weapon length directly reduces movement speed.

Also a Great Maul vs a Pike 1v1 should go in the Great Maul's favor 99% of the time.

i wanted to post this in technical forums, but i know i would get a warning.

basically: if i use transitional armor and a pike and bonk uses his full plate and a great maul, bonk is faster then me. If I use my cuir bouilli and a pike, he is about the same speed.

If he comes at me with his overhead ready, i have to hold an overhead and either try to run away while backpeddeling with my block up or try to get around him. The only problem is that if i try to get around him he releases his attack seemingly about to miss me but than drags his weapon over the ground to hit my foot. which obviously does knockdown. If i backpeddle in any armor with my block up he is way faster then me.

Yeah I don't see the problem with that. Long sticks making you slow on your feet is pretty much the same logic as quivers slowing archers down.

Consider the following: When you are using a pike, you are running around with a 3m long stick which was made to kill people from that particular range. Meanwhile, your opponent, the mauler has an 8kg heavy rock glued to a stick which is like 80cm long, made to violently rape people from THAT particular range.
Also when you release a swing with an 8kg heavy maul you can't stop it and it will gain speed.
ALSO you have 5315 sidearms on you, why don't you just use them?
