the xp grind is bad enough that yes, more loom points are the only way to make it worthwhile to retire.

The calculations some people are doing are absurd. You CAN'T get 10 loom points for retiring at 34, p.e., becase although is the same xp that you should do to retire 10 times and get 10 looms, if you go for level 34, you have actually enjoyed playing all of that xp with a superior level character. If you go retiring through all that xp, half the time  you play with a -30 level character, and the other half, with a 30 level character.

Going max level makes you play 4m xp with a -30 character, and the rest with a +30 character ... it would be unfair that you get same looms for retiring at superior levels compared to retiring normally at 31.

So the idea is ok, you get half the looms and a title, so people that have tried max leveling and somehow got bored of it, have the option to retire getting some benefits too (before, you couldn't), but not equal than retiring normally.

That is said from a lvl 34 character player view ...

yea but you have to wait longer to get the loom points. you can grind 1-31 in two weeks and retire.
grinding to 34 you need half a year so its a lot longer.
just saying there is no incentive to keep playing past lvl 34. I am not going for 35, it would take another year probably.

Probably still won't retire yet. I want to get to level 33 before I think of going back to dismal peasanthood.

Hmmm, 3 heirloom points and the title of Veteran? I'll stick with my build.
