Regarding damage types, blunt is outright the best type if the amount of damage stays constant and is in low-medium range (basically what most people do without speed bonuses). Pierce will outdamage blunt on average at very high damages. Blunt is always the least likely damage type to glance, but on said high damages no armor will prevent enough to make pierce glance unless there are heavy negative speed bonuses.

Cut is a terrible damage type, but since it's usually given in higher amounts or on weapons with otherwise better stats there damage type generalizations aren't that good. That said, against a full tincan you should generally use blunt or pierce and if you're running a very low damage skill build or are a peasant, pierce and especially blunt are generally a good choice. Where cut shines as much as it can are very high cut damage weapons with high levels of power strike.
