Approximate Speed...

It should tell you approximately how fast people are moving who are near you.

That way people know when to really quick march!

Agree.  I see no reason not to list "current speed" in the info window.

I already know you're not

Personally, I prefer speed being hidden. So you either have to observe your prey carefully or risk a quick march where you may not even catch them.

You can already figure a decent estimate by number of troops and whether or not they are carrying crates.  You would still not be sure about quickmarch without watching them for a little while but you can still get a general idea of what their speed would be by looking at troops/crates.

I'd prefer that remain less obvious but perhaps knowing if they are moving at horse speed would be good.  You would be able to distinguish between a mounted and foot army from pretty far away.

All the more reason to show their speed, imo.  You just give an advantage to people who know the formulas and punch in the numbers.

I think of it as "what would your scout be able to tell you".  He'd be able to tell you roughly the size of the army, roughly the speed and roughly how big their crate caravan was.

Really it should show a small arrow indicating direction too.  I see no reason our scout would tell us size and crate count but not tell us which way they are currently moving.

I'm not talking about formulas, I just know from experience with different  troop counts and with or without crates and quickmarching myself.  I think your scout would learn these things from experience too and not pull out an abacus in the field.     The hardcore will always be there calculating this and that and min/maxing to precision.

I do agree that a direction arrow would be a nice addition and it would go away when you are not moving to leave a little room for posturing and keeping other armies guessing about your intentions.  Great idea.  We may need to have the ability to zoom in closer to see the arrows when it gets crowded, however.  I think we could use more zoom levels even if we don't have direction indicators.  I've seen some confusing clusters on the map on occasion.

Great point.

I also think that it should only be telling you the speed of players that are within 50% of your view distance.

That way parties far away from you still remain a mystery as to their direction and speed.

A lot of people vote no, yet they give no reason.

If you can tell just by looking at the screen for a couple minutes and by doing the math you can get an approximation anyways.

Honestly if you don't put this feature in you will actually be taking away from the game, and appeasing people with too much spare time whom don't mind crunching numbers (and maybe even think its fun in some sick twisted way).
