My friend and I recently played mount and blade warband on an unpopulated server.  This obviously got boring fast so we figured we would make some sort of game to help ease our boredom.  We decided that one of us would be a hunter with a ranged weapon and wear light armor while other would be wearing no protective gear and carry a club.  The hunter (ranged character) would give the prey (club character) 20-30 seconds to hide on the map.  Once the 30 seconds were up the hunter would try to find the prey and shoot him. However, if the prey got close enough to the hunter he would almost always win because the hunter was not allowed to have a melee weapon.  After awhile more people began joining the server and we convinced them to play this game with us.  To our surprise everyone who played said that they enjoyed our little creation!  I was even told to post something on the forums to see if there was any possibility of taking this idea further.  So this is it!  Please post any ideas you have for this game and also if you find any flaws! Also please post and state if this sounds like something you would be interested in or would be something you definitely would play.  It would be a nice alternate to "Defend the Virgin" if there is nothing else to do when servers are lightly populated.  I'll list the rules and other issues concerning this game here. Please post if you have any thoughts regarding this matter!

P.S. Sorry if this isn't the best thought out petition but it's 6:56 am where I live and I haven't slept yet. lol

RULES:
-Hunter (ranged weapons only)
-Prey (Clubs, Sticks, etc. and no protective gear)
-Prey wins if
      A. Hunter is killed
      B. Hunter runs out of ammunition
      C. Stays alive until time runs out
      D. Touches one of the "Master the Field" flags
-Hunter wins if prey is killed.

Other Thoughts:

-Different maps would probably have to be taken out of game rotation if this game were to get it's own server. (too small)
-Not sure how experience and upkeep would play out in this (or if that would be something seperate entirely)
-I noticed that the hunter rarely won and bows worked best by far because of xbow reload time. Multiple hunters might be needed to even out teams and possibly given extra slots for arrows according to game size.
-Any thoughts you have please post them here!

LOL! I just posted a thread in suggestions at the exact same time you posted this! Closing that one.

I can attest to the fact that this game mode is super-fun.  It would be a great new gamemode.

I just thought of some additions. The devs should make some custom equipment for it.

The way it is now, you need a player who is an archer before you can even start playing. What if the Hunter was automatically assigned a specific bow and given temporary archery WPF. They could also be given special stacks of arrows that has a larger than normal amount.

That way everyone has a chance to be the hunter.

Like if one of the naked guys kills the hunter, he becomes the hunter next round.

Yeah that would be sick!

Also at the beginning of the round the screen should be black for the hunter for a set amount of time (i.e 20 seconds) so that the prey can hide and there won't be any cheating.

Also in regard to the custom equipment the hunter might need extra arrows if there's a lot of prey so that he doesn't run out of ammo as easily.

Yeah it was extremely frustrating switching back and forth between hunter and prey! Definately a good idea Spoons! hahaha

sounds a lot like the Hunt mod that i used to play

it was pretty awesome, the hunted got a special radar they could use and the hunters got muskets

sometimes it felt like the hunters were hunted though, especially in those tight corridor maps

This sounds awesome! I say w should have a special bow/xbow as mentioned. Or maybe a firearm (JUST for this gamemode so that people with PD and stuff are not better and all hunters are equal) and every character having 100 firearm wpf?

This sounds really fun and I'll make my clan do this next time we have training.

This game isn't about being skillful as much as its about saying things in general chat that enrage people who then go to murder you but in their rage they make dumb mistakes which gets them killed.

Man, awesome idea.
We used to play Hunter & Hunted in the woods and swamps back in highschool and the basic rules of that game could actually be applied to this too.

- You start with one Hunter. 
- Everyone else is The Hunted.
- Whoever the Hunter shoots (catches), they become Hunters as well.
- Eventually only one Hunted remains, and he/she is the winner and gets x5 for the next round, also becoming the 1st Hunter for the next round. (everyone else is x1)

Great idea, I used to roleplay one similar to that.

I would just hunt a single person on the other team, like Shik, with a dagger (or other short weapon). Pretty fun, can't kill anyone else. Kind of like "The Ship" game.

Actually, we already invented this during Warband beta, and it was eventually made into a mod.

Sadly I don't think it's been updated in a while. It's pretty fun, but I don't see how it would fit with cRPG at all.

I was thinking of a mode like this, but mine was more 'Frankenstein's Monster vs Peasant Horde'.

So, The Monster would be slow but really strong with lots of HP, long reach punches that deal high damage.
The opposition would all be peasants who spawn apart from each other, equipped only with rags, torches and pitchforks.
