Realism Discussion / Re: Long Sword vs another sword
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:14:19 pm »
Just fyi, ninja-to, aka a straight one-sided blade with a square tsuba, never existed. It's a product of the whore-mother of all myths - Hollywood. This weapon is pointless, it doesn't make sense, if a ninja or whoever the fuck else wanted to kill somebody with a sword, he'd use a katana or a similar existing sword, not invent a backwards ass design for no purpose other than to show off.

A katana, a real sword that was used on the battlefield, is a heavy two-handed sabre in essense. It's not magical. Fuck weaboos. I win. The end.

It's 25p and 99 SPD for +0 axe.

Fix the alternative link in the 230 thread. It's taking ages to download it otherwise.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Blunt wep or Sword

Axe has style. If only it was like 5 points longer... Niuweidao is amazing if you have at least 6 ATH, Elite Spamitar is also nice, probably the most balanced infantry sword out there.

Also, if you're not damn good with spin thursting, actually having a thrust attack on a 1Her is a disadvantage. Maybe I just suck, but sometimes you will mess up and thrust when facehugging, whiff and catch a pound of steel in your teeth. So just take a non-thrust weapon if you're an average player.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Looking for a Poleaxe build
« on: June 23, 2011, 09:48:12 pm »
The best polearms are the swingable, and longest ones. So the GLA, LHB and regular poleaxe are logically the best ones. You can try the long hafted dildos too.

The GLA requires more agi and the LHB more str to get the best performance. The poleaxe is balanced. Note that any build between 16/24 and 24/15 works with any of those weapons, and the final choice should be made considering the agi/str ratio that works best for you.

If you want to get style points, however, 2 attacks polearms are what you are looking for.

Poleaxe is slower than GLA, how is it "balanced"? Elegant Poleaxe is the golden middle, imo. Bec is also nice for quick of foot builds.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Best dueling polearm?

The factual length of Bec is akin to one-handed weapons. So if you're a practitioner of Helicopter-fu, stay away, just take LHB or Glaive. You can also try GLA, which is a better flameberge, but it's slow as all hell, so takes great blocking. Well, that's what I think anyway.

I didn't know pretend fighting was such a manly activity.

It's not about manliness, but about plain fun. If you can't understand what's so fun about fighting with swords, in a semi-realistic manner... well, too bad. Why is roleplaying fun? Why close combat is learned today even though it can't help against a gun? Why history fascinates us so much? Answer those questions and it might just become more clear to you, why are these people having fun.

I wear medium armor and break even on x1. If anything, I'd vote for armor price increase, too many people running around in transitional armor.

Oh I don't know... maybe Elegant Poleaxe, German Poleaxe, Great Long Axe, Poleaxe, Bec de Corbin. Are these enough?

They all come with downsides. Speed and factual reach. Plus polearms are worse than 2H for facehugging due to different sweetspot allocation.

Pick for 2H sword-in-one-hand power.

Langes Messer for overall efficiency (Elite Scimitar if you suck at thrusting).

Nordic Short Sword for spam mode.

I willing to bet japanese swords had much sharper points than european swords, even if european ones were mostly for stabbing probably still blunt compared.

its frankly retarded that nodachi does not have a stab and that katana's stab barely does more damage than the fucking wooden sword.

You lost the bet. Why would any sword be blunt?

I guess the extra weight on the poleaxe also means you'll be stunning better, both people and weapons/shields.

That some games you can never be good at unless you have the talent and needed motor functions.
