Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Solid Builds
« on: October 13, 2015, 04:58:06 pm »
Hi,
i suppose this question has been asked many times but can anyone help me with a solid 1h shield build. I am currently using 1h swords since i really dont want to miss out on stabs and i also like the reach (using irish sword right now). For armor i go with a medium armor (blue brigantine over mail with mail gauntlets, red hose with kneecaps and klappvisier), as shield i am using a knightly kite shield.
Now i am using a 21/21 build since i thought agi would work nicely to counter act the movement loss from the shield, however i feel like my dmg ends up being too low with this. Any suggestions on how to reroll? Is 24/18 be better or should i go for even more str? Also how many points in shield/if is considered enough/viable? thanks...

first off thanks for all the awesome input especially XyNox!

however all this made me wonder which build/item setup would be the most viable if you wanted to go for hybrid with the goal of being able to meele effectively, not only defensively.
of course any hybrid build will never be as good in meele or ranged as a dedicated build i get that, in addition there are limitations of gold upkeep, additions in weight and the complete lack of any lp (in my case)

from that standpoint would it even make a whole lot of sense to even go for bows specifically for hybrid ? or is xbow a more solid choice for that. throwing seems to be hard to pull off since the range is quite limited.

also 1h/2h/pole/shield ?
armor weight/cost achievable ?

im not looking for a definite answer, im just curious about opinions :)

yeah i know that about power draw and its cap to dmg, but i thought this formula was specifically about missile speed and not about damage. or are you saying that the same cap applies for missile speed too ? so that the maximum bonus to missile speed is also capped.

EDIT: i must have missed pauls last post, now that he mentioned its a cap its clear to me.

Power draw increases missile speed.

actual_shot_speed_in_m_per_s=item_shoot_speed*sqrt((min(power_draw, bow_difficulty+4)*0.12)+1.0)*1.2

thx for that formula, for some reason i could not find this in the other threads on the forum.

i dont have anything to do with mathematics professionally, but as i understand the term after sqrt means its either power draw OR bow difficulty+4 whichever is higher ? or whichever is lower ? so would this mean for instance if i were to use a longbow with power draw 6 it would use 5+4=9 or 6 (and then the rest). so in effect is this a cap for the missile speed bonus from power draw or is it a minimum missile speed?

i dont see how your reply relates to the question of which stats affect missile speed, however i am using the 18/18 build from the solid builds thread going for a little bit 2h skill and rest to archery

so i have been playing a hybrid archer for a while now and tried out several bows and noticed a somewhat extreme difference in the missile speed between bows which made me wonder, are the bigger bows really worth it ? i ve been running around with the horn bow and its hard to hit anything at far range because A) slow missile speed makes it hard to guestimate where target will be when the arrow hits and B) they are much more inaccurate.
so far i ve had much much more success with using lower bows because targets cant dodge as easy and they are more accurate to begin with. am i missing something here ? is there something else that affects missile speed except the inherent value on the bow ? i have only 142 in archery but afaik that would not increase missile speed either or does it ? i know masterwork increases the speed by a little bit but is that all there is to it ?

im looking for some advice on how to make a build. basically i went to this thread and decided to go with the 24/15 build for polearms with 5 IF, 8 PS, 5 ATH, 5 WM and max out polearm.
now the problem is this, i found a liking to the war spear with a shield to play support and swap the shield to the back whenever im not against archers or in a clusterfuck. for this purpose i put 2 points in shield (since i noticed that one point was practicaly worthless since the shields are crap) now i would like to know what my options are down the road with this, should i take the 2 points out of iron flesh ? or should i convert less skill points to increase the skills i have ? like going for less than 24 str gimps my power str but would allow me for more hp and better shields, but is that a good idea ? and if so how much str should i get ?

after reading this thread i was wondering if there is a source where you can look the complete weapon stats up (including info on secondary modes, swing directions, wheter you can use it with shield or not in case of polearms)
i am playing a secondary char with polearms and am looking through all the options to find one that suits my needs and am a bit lost. is there one that can be used as support like a pike, has the option to be put on back/goes with shield/has 4 directions so you arent completely fucked when you play 1v1. i currently use the bamboo spear but 2 attack directions are quite hard in any 1v1 situation.

so basically i would like the option of shield against missiles, have long range to support and possibly be swappable/4 attack directions for 1v1 fights

thx for the fast answers, this forum sure is active! i read through the game mechanics thread and also the other thread that was linked from there and found the information super helpful, thx a lot.

now i am playing a 2h/archer hybrid with the build coming from the solid build threads. its an 18/18 build with over 140 archery and 50 2h skill. so far for armor i ve been going really light to not go over that 11kg no wpf loss limit. usually thats just a mail shirt with fur, nasal helmet and leather gloves plus rus cavalry boots. however with weapons upkeed i had my share of problems. ive been using the nomad bow with tartar arrows to cut costs but that really gimps my dmg out. as weapon i was only using a maul since its super cheap and has that knockout potential. from what i read here i suppose the horn bow with tartar arrows should be affordables ? as 2h weapons go is an upgrade advisable ? i thought about getting the longsword...

also i am sitting on 70k cash right now (yeah ive been playing nonstop last week ;) )

Hey,

ive been playing crpg for about a week and am greatly enjoying this great mod.

now as the topic says i was wondering since the upkeed chance is so random i have a hard time judging this and wanted to ask some of the more experienced players out there: what is the point at which you really start to lose money in terms of upkeep ? i usually run around in about 1k upkeed a number i read somewhere and make a hefty plus but before i buy anything bigger i wanted to know when i have to expect losing money.

thx & regards

I was just banned for teamattacking as archer twice on a friendly guy. Thing was that for some reason my ui was buggy and it didnt show a team tag so i thought it was an enemy. Anyway as much as i like admins being on the ball, banning someone for two team attacks is a bit overzealous i didnt even have time to explain myself.

regards
