General Discussion / Finaud Soundpack v1 AKA "HALLOW"
« on: August 29, 2014, 04:31:30 am »
This is the reason my main is now female. I reinstalled the goofy amazing Monty Pythonesque soundpack that gave us "To me sweet pony!" "HALLOW" and of course, "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"

The links to the version Finaud had posted are dead, so here it is, for all time:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h3vy3vbisl0wkbj/AAAkgayzCaF_VbConcIqOx4Ta?dl=0

Just extract the .rar into your "Sounds" folder in crpg and replace everything when prompted, and replace your Sounds.txt file, and you're set!

Post any questions, it should be pretty straightforward but for me (I use steam) the file path is Steam->Steamapps->Common->M&B->Modules->crpg

Hope this makes the mod as magical for you as it has for me, and never stop DEFENDING THE STAAAAAAAIRS.

Kisses,
Theodora

To Whom It May Concern,

I would note an orthographic error regarding one of the weapons.

"Estoc" is incorrect, the historically accurate term would be "NamoRage Inducer." I hope to see this discrepancy corrected soon.

Much obliged,
Theo

PS this patch seems legit, many thanks!

Game Balance Discussion / The (not so) Great Long Axe
« on: July 30, 2013, 04:39:33 pm »
Hello there, Theo from Astralis here. I've been following these forums since I started playing but haven't really felt compelled to post. There is one issue that has been bugging me, however. As mentioned in this thread (http://forum.meleegaming.com/game-balance-discussion/long-bardiche/), there is something of a discrepancy between, say, the Long Bardiche and the Great Long Axe in terms of what you get for the money. Check it:

Great Long Axe stats:

Requires 16 strength
Speed:91
Length:125
Thrust:16 blunt
Swing:45 cut
Bonus against shield
Weight:3.5
Upkeep:885 gold

Long Bardiche stats:

Requires 17 strength
Speed:89
Length:140
Thrust:18 pierce
Swing:45 cut
Bonus against shield
Weight:3.5
Upkeep:485 gold

15 extra length is HUGE, and 2 speed difference doesn't mean a great deal in the world of polearms, where from what I have seen this mostly translates into a longer time chambering the animation before firing, particularly for the right swing (which, as we all know, is king for poles!). Plus, there's the issue of cost, which is not insignificant: I could rock blue brigandine over mail and use a long bardiche, or wear a mail hauberk and use the GLA for the same upkeep.

I have a suggestion, and a modest one: you will note that I did not mark the strength requirement for the weapons in red or green. This is because, in a world of optimized builds, 16 and 17 str required to wield a weapon translates into roughly the same thing: no 15/24 or 15/27 agi pole funtimes allowed.

Please lower the Great Long Axe's strength requirement by 1. Then perhaps we will see more players running around with one, and not just F8 ;)

I realize that you could conversely call for making the Long Bardiche unbalanced or lowering its damage, but I'd much rather see a buff to the GLA. As it is, between the long bardiche and long war axe there are better options, and I think that's a shame, because in my opinion the GLA is the sexiest-looking polearm in the game. Making it viable for agi builds is a start.

Thanks for reading,

Theo

It is exactly what I would suggest. It is THE hoplite build.

Awesome! I assume you mean 21/15?

What about 8 vs. 7 for power throw? Would I notice a difference in my throwing game?

This thread has been amazingly helpful, so big ups to everyone involved.

I was thinking about making a hoplite who uses a throwing lance in melee and carries 2 others for chuckin'.

How's this for a build?

(click to show/hide)

Unless my calculations are incorrect (entirely possible), this build could wear heraldic mail and fight with a 1-slot shield of his choosing while being able to nastily surprise folks.

My main questions are:
1) Is this viable, much less "solid?"
2) Would 24/12 make more sense? Is 8 PT a significant increase from 7 in terms of accuracy/damage?

As a side question, does anyone know the throwing lance's melee stats?

Thanks!

-Theo

The real question now becomes: which is better for trolling, the Eastern Masked Cavalry Helmet or the Vaegir War Mask?

7
350K would do it I think.

I don't have a +3, but I DO have a +1 Long Hafted Spiked Mace that I would be willing to trade for a +1 warspear, +1 heraldic armor of some sort, gold (negotiable price), or whatever polearm you can entice me with!

Message me if interested.  :D
