Yes, but if it were used on horseback, it would use the 1h stab animation, thus gaining the 1h stab length.

If it WERE actually a problem, which I don't see it being one.... Here is your solution, which has been in my original post since your first response.

EDIT: I did forget about the distance change from holding a weapon in the middle as opposed to the end. but you could hold the flamberge from the upper grip, like you do when thrusting with it normally, just with 1 hand instead.

18/24 is a decent flamberg build at a higher level, i tried it myself using a quite heavy armor (shynbaulds&rus scale), but i maxed out WM (thanks to high lvl^^), very useful if you want to hunt down archers while wearing plate armor. You dont need IF if you compensate it with your armor, but if you want to got for high level I would suggest you the build i have atm, which is much more powerful, but you need to reach 33 for it

Strength: 21
Agility: 24
Hit points: 56
Skills to attributes: 14
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 5

On lvl 34 get yourself 8 WM

Well I don't retire, I just make alts. So higher levels is possible. But if I were to get to 33 with it, I'd be more inclined to get even MORE ath! Like 18/27. Why would you choose the STR over more AGI and ath?

3
iirc the stab bonus for 2Hers are about 80, and the stab for polearms IF used in one hand is +61-ish, which is why Hoplites always stab farther then their normal brethren using the same weapons (And why the Bamboo spear with a shield is so lulzy).

But also the flamberge is unique in that it doesn't stab like a normal 2h sword. It uses a polearm animation where he grips it much further up the sword. That's why the flamberge right swing is the longest attack, and not the thrust.

Yeah, kinda. I had one point in shield that I used rarely (lol) on my level 30 build, and I ended up not using my extra skill point on the level 32 build so I could convert for another attribute point into agility if I hit level 33. The idea was that if I carried the build to level 34 I would have 10 athletics, but I never quite got there, heh.

Was the flamberge sheathable at one point? why did you have the shield point?

I'd love to know some of your other high agility builds you have tried, as it seems we have made more than a few similar ones so far.

I rolled a slight variation of this build a while back. I loved it so much I carried it to level 32. I had one shield skill and converted the other 2 skill points into an attribute point. By level 32 I had an 18/27 build rolling with 9 athletics.

I used a Flamberge, Black Lamellar Vest, Light Strange Greaves, Mail Gauntlets and no helmet for style points.

The awesome part of this build is that you're effectively immune to groups of enemies and cavalry if you can see them coming. It's even easier to kill cavalry now than it was for me because of horses' leg damage bonus. The only thing to really worry about is tight spaces and ranged.

So a level 30 like this?

Strength: 18
Agility: 25
Hit points: 53

Skills to attributes: 16

Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 1

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 119
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

And then level 32 something like this?

Strength: 18
Agility: 27
Hit points: 53

Skills to attributes: 16

Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 0
Athletics: 9
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 2

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 129
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

Terrifyingly so.
With a bit of footwork abusing you can top the charts of battle by just right swinging. One of my most fun 2h STF characters was this.

Nice! With this same exact setup? What kind of armor were you sporting?

Beginner's Help and Guides / Flamberge 18/24 viability?
« on: September 16, 2012, 09:33:28 am »
Just been messing around with this sword today, I like it. It seems one of the most popular builds is 18/21.

But how would it be with another 3 agi and 1 ath slapped on? Proposed build:

Strength: 18
Agility: 24
Hit points: 53

Skills to attributes: 14

Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 3

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 133
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

Obviously you wouldn't be able to take hits, but that would be the point hopefully. Gonna test it on my stf as soon as I can get a flamberge on there.

I don't retire though. But I could test them all on my stf no problem.

Because it is 152 length, with the +80 from stab animation that makes 232. Making it the longest stabbing weapon allowed on horseback (if implemented) since the great lance is 230.

Or does it have the same stab as the polearms? In which case it's still over 200. I think since it would be mounted, it would use the 1h stab anim - I could be wrong though.

However, if stab were disabled and you could only swing while mounted... hmm...
swinging that thing from horseback would be insanely overpowered. I just meant using the sword with the lance animation. And I don't think +80 is correct...

Suggestions Corner / Use Flamberge on horseback, but thrust animation only.

Title says it, I don't see why this would be an issue. It does 2 less pierce damage than a heavy lance, and is about as long as a practice lance or red tassel/war spear. It would be more for fun than usefulness, as you probably wouldn't be riding anything more than say a rouncey while using this on horseback.

Just a thought. I've got a little crush on this weapon at the moment.

EDIT: I did forget about the distance change from holding a weapon in the middle as opposed to the end. but you could hold the flamberge from the upper grip, like you do when thrusting with it normally, just with 1 hand instead.

If agility based builds are so underpowered, than how come so many use it?

Some people play certain builds just because they enjoy them, not because they are actually best. Heck, I play a 6/36 on my stf. Do I do it because it's good? Hell no, it sucks! But it's extremely fun to play.

And really not that many use it, its not like there is ever a large number of high agi in one room, maybe a few at the most. Nothing near the amount of str heavy builds running around.

I tried 15-24 on my STF, seems like very nice build. Though you nearly can't duel at all, but you're very good as support with that build.
Also I don't think that you should take more IF instead of 1 additional PS, as a hoplite you're not supposed to be hit at all, so you don't really need a lot of HP.

I have PS maxed out on both builds. Unless you're talking about something else. And yeah I just threw IF on there for the extra points, I will probably use them for WM, as I try not to get hit at all.

Been testing a 12 strength/4 PS hoplite alt.  Never glances as long as you make sure to step forward when stabbing for the speed bonus.  I would say 12/24.  8 Athletics is plenty, take some extra shield/IF and live a little (longer).

I'm heading for this on the alt, almost there (already very good at 12/18)

Level 30
    Strength: 12
    Agility: 24
    Ironflesh: 4
    Power Strike: 4
    Shield: 8
    Athletics: 8
    Weapon Master: 5
    Polearm: 148

Take the WM to accommodate for heavier armours (and associated loss to speed) and weapons breakage.  Having a Double Sided Lance or Ashwood break all the time gets expensive.

I didn't know wpf related to weapon breakage chance! Higher skill less chance of breakage? I usually try to get as high of agi and ath as I can so that I then have the option to run very light or heavier armor depending on situation. Kind of a speed regulator.

Thanks for the info.

Beginner's Help and Guides / High AGI hoplite build? New to hoplite
« on: September 15, 2012, 09:00:33 am »
Hello! Making my final alt for a long time here, and I would really like to make a hoplite! I haven't done one yet, and I'm going to test builds on my stf, but seing as that I know nothing about it, I could use some help.

I like playing as support. I like high athletics to take out cav, chase archers/throwers, and to keep my enemies at a distance. I usually like to carry a long range primary weapon, and a utility short range secondary (like something to break shields, knockdown, etc)

So I see some recommended hoplite builds like 15/21 but I'd really like to have even more athletics if possible.

So maybe something like this:

Strength: 15
Agility: 24
Hit points: 54

Skills to attributes: 8

Ironflesh: 2
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 8
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 0

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 114
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

---Or even this:

Strength: 12
Agility: 27
Hit points: 49

Skills to attributes: 8

Ironflesh: 1
Power Strike: 4
Shield: 9
Athletics: 9
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 0

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 114
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

And I could drop the IF and switch it to WM, or take a few points of shield out, but I want high shield skill as well, so that I get that nice shield bubble and good durable shields.

Some hoplite weapons I know about are red tassel, war spear, bamboo spear, ashwood pike.
Some secondaries I thought might be fun to carry are voulge, and quarter staff
EDIT: Oops thought voulge was 1 slot, guess just quarter staff then!

 What do you guys think?

Suggestions Corner / Re: More Hitpoints or armor for horse.

I actually agree in a way. But not in the way you seem to want it. I think ranged attacks like arrows should do less damage to horses, its way too easy to hit a horse with a ranged projectile. And I think things like spears should do more damage to horses. It seems silly that an arrow or a darned rock can take off half of a destriers health, but a footmans pike that plunges halfway through the horses front... Through main arteries and major organs... Only does maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of its health....
