Tried the manual activation, it asks for a serial number and the 5x5 cd key doesn't work.

I was worried about the warning in the OP too, but Meow directed me to that thread and it actually worked without any problems yet, you just input your key and it gives you a 4x4 to activate manually with. From the other thread,

Warband 2010 Steam European release (it might not work on every release)

What finally worked for me:

1. install and update "Steam" Warband

2. install cRpg launcher

3. when asked for activation go here: http://www.taleworlds.com/main.aspx?dir=convertserial.aspx

4. write your 5x5 serial , get new shorter serial

5. instead of normal activation choose OFFLINE activation (the one at the bottom)

6. there u will see your Hardware Hash number. Follow the link to get your off-line activation number. Use Hardware Hash and your new serial.

7. Activate with the long number you just got and play by pressing "play CRPG" in the Launcher.

8. Go to any server NA or EU. If you're still getting WSE warrnings -restart the game.

9. After one restart warning will be gone and everything should be working (to be sure play rageball as it absolutely needs WSE to work)

10. Enjoy!

Ive tried most solutions in the thread and steam still asks me for a key every time, so I guess with 1.152 5x5 keys are screwed from playing?
