Uh, like stoning people to death for ridiculous reasons? Limiting freedom of speech? Murdering people because God said so? Limiting freedom in general?

There's a large ammount of Christians (or Muslims for that matter) who neither partake in nor like those things. There's also enough atheists who murder or try to force people to do what they want.
So where's the difference? That's rather a question of the wrong beliefs (in both cases) or not even related at all (I guess 90% of murders happen for purely mundane reasons like money or being pissed at your wife leaving you).

What's even the point of not having delusions?

... so in what way dangerous?

High strength glaive spammer or something probably.
Or crossbowman.
Cavalry is probably demanding the most from your graphics card due to fast change of scene.

Why can't you decide what you want for yourself? Why commit suicide if you enjoy living, as normal human beings do? Why end something you like? You don't stop playing a good game because it, ultimately, has no meaning either.

I'm playing a game because I'm having fun. The question what's the point doesn't normally arise. But maybe I'm in a phase where the game isn't fun. I'm level 5, onehitted after the first 10 seconds, etc. And I'm keeping playing. Why? Because I believe by doing this I will reach a stage where I can have fun, or I'm proud of my achievement or whatever.

Abstract: If someone does anything it's either because he perceives it as worthwhile or because he thinks it's necessary to achieve something worthwhile. That's "what's the point". What's that thing you are trying to reach that you consider worthwhile? It's pretty clear this question can be recursed infinetely etc. etc. Well, some have said it's a silly question (when taken to far). I don't really see why. It's quite obviously extremely important to be able to answer the question for at least some recurses to be able to get through life (what's the point of getting up for work?).

There's also obviously points where the question isn't answered rationally but by hardcoding. Why have sex? Why do drugs? Why be liked by people? Because it feels good.
For other cases you have to posit an ultimate meaning. Saying the recursion never stops doesn't satisfy. And that's the rock bottom foundation of religion I think. There's a lot built around that, but what differenciates it from hobby fairytale club or political party is the belief that there is, in the end, a meaning to all of this and it's all fine. This belief isn't "logical knowledge" and the idea that noone actually understands this ultimate thing is part of it. The point is believing it's there.

Ofc. you can say that's silly thinking. But then what?
As I understand you what you're basically saying is there is no ultimate meaning. It's a delusion. The point of it all is, so to speak, that you feel good. Let's assume you are right.
But as soon as you're actually trying to convice someone of that it becomes ironic. Why are people believing it in the first place? Assuming obviously they are even able to decide what to believe in.
Since it makes them feel good. After all that's all there is. So while you're telling people the important thing is to feel good you're taking from them what makes them feel good (note, I'm not talking about religious organisations or such, just about that "ultimate meaning" thingy). So ... why? You can't say "I helped them overcome a delusion" or "the truth". What's even the point of not having delusions? Whether you feel good obviously. Which isn't the case. So, really, why?

I mean you could easily answer this conclusively by saying making people unhappy makes you happy and that'd be that. Religious people can excuse themselves by believing they have the ultimate truth. But I don't think apart from that there's much point promoting atheism, much less nihilism.

The name as indicator could be a troll.

Obviously. But then maybe people have said the same thing about Laotse back then.

But:
x (y) = 5 keystrokes
x*y = 3 keystrokes

I cannot seriously comprehend how someone would waste his time by typing things which are totally unnecessary.

Wow, so much covering up in this thread.

Everyone who understands the truth about Egypt knows about their ancient colony in Antarctica.

Even if that isn't the case, pyramids are just big 3D triangles.

Three points, four sides.

3 (4)= 12.
12 / 2 = 6.
6 + 3 = 9.
9 / 3 = 3.

3 pyramids in Egypt, 3 pyramids in Antarctica.  It keeps popping up.  What does 3 mean?  Were the ancient Egyptians onto something.

Well, take 3 (9) = 27.

27 (100) = 2700

2700 B.C.E., Egyptians were making pyramids.  Then there's 3 again.

2700 (3) = 8100

8100 B.C.E., Egyptians came from Lemuria, which was their colony in Antarctica.  You probably wouldn't know this, because you believe the lies Mainstream Science (more like Mainstream suckance) tells you.

8100 (3) = 24,300.

As in light years.  The number of light years the ancient Egyptians traveled to get to Earth.

I hope I have enlightened you, mortals.

Why do you write x (y) when you mean x*y?

It's true but the dynamics are more complicated than that in the long run. It is also a direct opportunity for poor wannabe entrepreneurs.
I am not familiar with that (or the usage of "whom" apparently). But anyway my reasoning is that work at miserable wages produces more value that can be sold for cheaper, increasing the life standard of whoever buys the products.

A worker earning 3000$ and working 8h will produce exactly the same value as one earning 1000$ and working 8h (assuming same performance ofc).
Mercylessly exploiting that a foreigner has so little opportunity to find a job he will do the same for a lot less is not exactly a role model for fairness. Arguably it's not racist, we aren't interested in that, just to get as much out of anyone for the least pay. Like Xant says this is only going to work out for people who aren't required to compete with them.
It might be a possible stance for someone who feels save to want the class gap as high as possible - although it would be ironic to talk about discrimination then - but it does cause longterm problems for the country. Having all the foreign low wage workers living in low rent areas where they are practically among themselves except for some frustrated natives having to do the same shitty jobs isn't integration after all.
We are tempted to consume value, it's cheap after all, while investments are going abroad. I don't think immigration plays really a big role in that regard but going abroad to low wage countries does. If it would be only done with unskilled labour we'd maybe be able to make sure we are keeping control of the money (or at least only spend in those countries we can expect to stay dependent). Exploitative as hell, but it would work out. Investing that cheap labour into the future (although we don't even know for what) would work. Consuming it away we will suddenly find ourselves in the situation where noone is going to work cheap for us anymore as we have nothing to offer in return. As things are working on more complex international logistics we are also ceeding more power to the giant companies that are able to manage them efficiently, which isn't all that good for the middle class.

Beer tastes like shit. Nobody likes beer, it's just another taste learned through peer pressure. And bread tastes good, therefore beer can't be liquid bread

This is quite wrong, a lot of people like beer. And apart from the taste (which I'm not going to argue about as it is pointless) beer has many advantages.
I'm not even comparing to the unhealthy sugarthingies the kids drink nowadays.
Beer is usually served either in bottles or large glasses which are relatively sturdy when comparing with say wine. Due to lower production cost of the glassware, lower breakage chance and more uncomplicated serving beer allows more freedom and activity. Their larger tanks also let beer drinkers operate further from the bar. Movement is healthy.
Out of all traditional drinks beer has the lowest amount of alcohol per liter and also works quite fast. This makes it very easy to dosage. Easy is maybe wrong because it tastes so good, but unless you are drinking very fast your body has time to realize how drunken you are and whether you'll regret the next one.
It is also significantly more healthy due to the amount of water, nutritients and Spurenelemente it contains. One of the chief dangers of drinking is dehydration and the loss of important elements. While the intake may not outweigh the loss it does limit the bad effects better than any other drink. Since quality beer causes the least amount of hangover per liter of alcohol (with the exception of quality vodka perhaps) [1] productivity is retained as best as possible.

Bottom line is beer allows to reach the desired state of drunkenness with the highest accuracy and the least harmful social, economic and health side effects. Even if it did taste bad it would be the most sensible thing to drink.

Any of you knows a good tactical RPG for PC, turn-based is a plus.

If you are mostly interested in tactical take a look at Temple of Elemental Evil.
The plot and setting is quite boring (linear dungeonstomp) it has however a very good implementation of tactical tabletop DnD. With many options not usually seen. For example fighters can use positioning to protect mates or flank enemies, wizards have spells that are not fire and forget but can be turned of or targeted anew every round.

General Off Topic / Re: does the means justify the end?
« on: October 17, 2013, 04:53:47 am »
"ends" and "means" are human-defined concepts that do not exist in the physical world. Now that I think of it, "justify" doesn't exist either, as it implies ethics.

What do you mean by physical world? Electrons and natural laws are human concepts as well.
And I don't know about exists, but I know sometimes you have to ask yourself "ok, so what should I do?". Well, I have, anyway. (Natural) sciences are handy for answering the question "ok, let's assume I did so and so, what will happen next?" but outside of that they're really optional.
