Suggestions Corner / Re: Remove STF timer for STF alts
« on: August 24, 2012, 09:00:24 am »
I made a thread about this a few months ago. The reason against it was that you could make a perfect build for every strat battle if your stf was your main. Is this even still possible?

Reasons why there should be no time limit on stf-
It takes a month just to try out 4 builds. A newbie trying out archer/cav/polearm/2h/1h would take 4 weeks worth of stf and leveling their main. This doesn't even get into different stat builds of those weapons. Newbies stay terrible longer simply because they can't learn the weapons at near complete build levels without spending months in the game.

People will still have to grind hours upon hours in money to get any decent equipment on their stf.

It is almost impossible to run experiments to test out balancing or bugs ( You'll have to wait weeks to find out if the 1ps or 1wm is worth more to you). For example at which point does stacking str make wearing heavy armor nearly as fast as if you didn't stack str.

Lastly not many of the veterans even care about stf because it is clearly a waste of time once you gain enough knowledge about the game. Leveling an alt to 26 would take about the same amount of time it takes to get proper equipment on a stf (assuming you weren't going for the high cost gear).

3 shots to kill my 30/9 friend from a distance. 3 points total. 3  shots into him near point blank? 8 points. I have a feeling distance lowers the points you get. Also hitting a guy 4 or 5 times with my side arm gives way more points than if I get a lucky face stab in and instagib someone.

General Discussion / Re: Best Arrows To Use?
« on: August 24, 2012, 08:10:10 am »
Bodkins are better for anyone with 30+ armor, there's a bit of play back and forth depending on looms and how much power draw you have but it's a decent rule to go by. Basically everyone except other archers and peasants will take at least one more tatar to kill unless their build has a weird amount of hp.  From testing and experience most builds would have a couple hp left after the 3~4 tatar requiring an extra shot compared to dieing at the 3~4 bodkin.

On the other hand tatars are cheaper and come with more for rapid fire spam at squishy targets. Random battle server wise I could rack up the same score with bodkins or tatars as long as I payed attention to who I would do the most damage to and didn't use tatars when the whole enemy time is in heavy armor.

Only problem I have with 1h is I regularly glance stabs on peasant armor archers who are standing still facing another direction. I've also glanced a few overheads on unarmored heads. No idea whats up with it.

General Discussion / Re: Fix the auto-balance plz!

If you really watch the scores over the course of several maps you'll notice it trades 2 or more players with lower amounts of kills for a player with a high amount of kills. I'd assume the point is that it wants good players vs. a mob, but since the guys who get no kills still amount to no effect it just stacks one side with the good players.

Having 5 extra people on your team is worthless if the last 10 people on the list have 0 kills when the other team only has 3 guys with no kills. You'd imagine the winning side would have just a few people with a large kill advantage, but it usually goes all the way down the list. The only reasons I see that it doesn't evenly distribute kills is that people get mad when they get switched after the second round, which makes the auto-balance unreliable (only having the first round for data is pretty hit/miss) and that it rewards players that are doing well. Once things like several small groups of players with different clan banners being in means it is working well away from optimal balance.

They all get the job done, and all have good quality once the admin actually sets a decent codec.

STF can't use the marketplace so being able to transfer stuff to your alts doesn't matter. Also they don't get enough money to even try much out without playing for at least a few hours.

I feel the best way to improve money gain is to check how much each piece will cost you and then make sure simply repairing 1 piece of your equipment isn't going to be more than you'd make with your average multiplier in 4 minutes (5 to 6 if the servers near full).

People losing sync and flying in mid-air almost always happens when something forces me to load in slower than normal, like say 190 people being on the server with the graphics maxed. A cool thing though is that when the person gets dehorsed they become resynced, so it is possible to resync after the match starts. Would be cool to have it resync at the first tick of the match to help people out even if it isn't a true server side problem.

You can also solve the write speed problem with multiple HDs. For example if one of the hds only job is to write data for fraps while the other does the rest it works quite well (assuming the hd has a fast enough write speed). You could also set up a raid 0 to try to get past the write speed of your hard drives as it does increase performance.

Not only do hills murder your movement speed, but just about every floor that isn't stone does too, especially the wood floors on the castle walls. It makes no sense for a wooden floor to decrease your movement speed by 50%.

4-5 agility gave you the same speed increase as 1 athletics or at least it was like that a few weeks ago.

Game Balance Discussion / Re: Armor

I see VERY few people use it on NA.
And frankly, heavy armor sucks

While the only people I actually see go around in plate is kutt, a huge amount of us are only 2 or 3 body armor away from it before looms. It's really fun once you realize that you can get plates effectiveness for half the cost.

Well, now to figure out a build that always has a 30% knock down chance unless a glance occurs.
