General Discussion / Re: Is Crpg "popular?"
« on: October 24, 2011, 02:31:42 am »
It's a great mod but the steep learning curve, douchey elitist community, and low population of M&B doesn't help much.

The bad team balance system sort of works in your favor as it gives one side a chance to get 5x easily. A better team balance system would just cause a lot of flip flopping in who wins and leave both teams at x1 constantly. Perhaps a better system would be to drop to 4x from 5x if you lose once instead of going all the way back to 1x.... just a thought.

This game would be a hit if it incorporated a lot of things from other competitive games, such as a ladder system, ability to form your own warband with friends and compete with other warbands, etc. Unfortunately, all of that takes a lot of work and it's doubtful it will ever happen seeing as how the population has dropped from what it was 6 months ago (based on personal observation).

Funny of you to accuse others of arrogance, when you even fail to read the rather informative replies you have received to this thread, whilst spouting these "i-know-everything-better-than-you-all" misinformed posts.

At above - no one bothered to stop it, because it wasn't known that such existed.

Clearly you do a great job of reading as well since just a few posts above the creator of the mod stated everyone's known about it for a year yet action was only taken just a few short months ago once the hack was put up for public download.

The point is: you have no point. I'm not even sure what you were trying to achieve with that thread. So people know there's an autoblocker? Well no shit, that has been around for nearly a year. And no secret at all.
Yeah, that sure worked out well for native. Getting your ass banned with your looms locked up was what kept this hack under control in cRPG. They even say so in the first line line of the thread you linked. Do not use in cRPG.

My point is that this hack has been around for a LONG time and until the creator got bored and decided to put it up for public download where you could test it out and see how it works (and even made the source code available), none of you could visually tell if someone was hacking or had any way to detect it. Telling me you've known about this for a while is an outright fucking lie, because there was no official mention of this or any bans that I can remember UNTIL the guy who made it put it right in front of your face and said "here you go bro, here's the hack and here is the source code so you can see how it works"

So more specifically my point is your hack detection system and knowledge of this hack was only thanks to the fact that the creator gave it to you and all the information you needed on a silver platter. So if anybody else decides to remake this hack with a little more thought you're probably going to have very little chance of combating it until he gets bored with this game and decides to share it with everyone as well.

Now I'm not exactly blaming you here, this is really more of a case of poor game design and shitty euro programming by the developers. I appreciate the effort you guys are putting in to try to stop this. The only thing I hate is your smug and arrogant attitude, and that of some of the community members. How you say "Go ahead, give it a try, and say your char goodbye" and other comments you've made.... I mean buddy... none of you knew about this or could stop it until the guy gave you all the information on a silver platter. So when somebody else makes another auto-block hack what are you going to do if he doesn't decide to put it up for everyone to download or give you the source code?

It's sad how egotistical and arrogant the cRPG community is especially on the forum. I've been playing this mod for a while now and I've seen a few threads over that time about people suspecting hacks were being used. Every time someone made a mention of it they got trolled and flamed with comments such as "you're just a noob" or "the other guy is just better than you" or some other sumg / sarcastic reply.

Then these hacks were posted publicly and over 250 people were banned, a SIGNIFICANT percentage of players when you take a look at how few people are actually playing cRPG or Warband. A little bit of common sense would tell you that many people escaped the bans which just further illustrates how wide spread the usage was. Of course nobody went back to those posters months ago and said "wow... I guess you were right and were just a bunch of troll idiots"... no... of course not... because egotistical clowns will always continue to be egotistical clowns and cRPG is the egotistical clown hot-spot.

If you think these hacks just came out in the past couple of months you've got to be really f***ing stupid. The reality is that these hacks have been in the game from the start as any half decent programmer could make an auto-block hack seeing as how the whole auto-blocking system is already part of the game design. So what happened before this hacks became public? Nothing... people were using it and none of you were the f***ng wiser, especially all the admins; some of them who claim to be experts at the game and that it takes an expert to really know if someone is hacking. Well all you "experts" didn't know jack shit until the hack creator got bored with this game and decided to put it up on a public forum for everyone to download. It took well over a year before people started getting banned for this hack, and only after it was posted on a public forum and made about as obvious as possible that a hack does exist. So your comments about how "I could easily tell if someone is hacking" makes no f***ing sense and is just another example of the egotistical clown nature of this community that I mentioned.

Perhaps there is a way to automatically detect this specific hack... there probably is... considering the guy who developed it offered to send the source code to anyone who PMs him. The point I'm trying to make is:

1). That the whole "admin spectating" system of detection is clearly worth jack shit considering how long it took for people to realize the fact that hacks are prevalent in this game, and in the end it wasn't even player spectating that discovered this. The community became aware and actions were taken only after the hack developer put up the hack for public download and offered the source code as well. Yeah... obviously it's going to be easy to deal with once you can easily download the hack, test it out to see how it works, and look over the source code to see how it's programmed.

2). Systems like Steam's VAC or PunkBuster take continual updates to stop hacks as there are many ways to get around detection and it takes a team of people working full time to keep hacking under control in other games. It's not like this auto-block hack was designed to bypass any kind of security; from the looks of it, it seems about as complex as a regular trainer, yet it was being used in the game for so long by a large number of people until the community found out. If you think his hack can't be redesigned with more thought so that it's harder to detect automatically or visually then you're a f***ing idiot.

At the end of the day it doesn't much matter to me as I always play cavalry or archer. Frequent admin presence, public knowledge of this hack, and a super small game population where word gets around has helped keep this hack under control. I still believe this is being used today from what I've seen, but realistically it's probably by 1-2% of the population or less and because of game dynamics (arrows, bolts, throwing, horses, etc), it doesn't have a big impact on the game to the point where it ruins the fun or becomes unplayable. I'm sure if this mod doesn't die down in the next 6-12 months somebody else will get board with the game and decide to put up his hacks for public download. At which point a lot of will think to yourselves "ohh wow... I guess we were wrong and this has been going on for a while" but publicly still maintain an arrogant attitude about how you actually knew about this all along... because... you know... you're such a pro at this game that there's no way anyone could ever fool you! What a joke...

The point is, the good players in cRPG are usually known. Hell, I'm mediocre, but I'm sure a lot of people have seen me ingame.
If you're unknown to admins/good players and you suddenly start steel cage blocking, you're suspicious.

The fact that there are admins on most of the day watching for this kind of stuff and the fact that there is a community around the mod has probably helped quite a bit to keep the hacking under the control. But if you guys think this hack isn't being used by more than a handful of people on the server everyday I think you're just kidding yourselves. This is the type of hack is not easy to spot if the person using it isn't an idiot. Kind of like wall-hack in fps games. If the player isn't abusing it, it's not something you're going to stop easily if your only method of detection is having an admin spectate him.

6
They do key bans.  Anytime you get banned for anything, it's all of your characters.  Only way to get back is with a new CD key and even then a suspicious enough dev might decide to look up IPs, as we know they track IPs as well.

Basically this isn't some MMORPG where people can cheat for months and not get caught.  Good players, in particular, notice autoblockers and admins aren't that rare.

It's also not an FPS where you can aimbot and people can't really be sure if you're doing it or not -- blocking is up close and personal and a little too obvious.

Are you kidding me bro? I've been playing on the US Battle server and in the last 2 hours I already spotted two people (just from the ones I randomly spectated; I wasn't out searching for hackers) that are clearly using a block hack. Instantly blocking attacks with almost no reaction time, with no movement of either mouse or wasd in the direction of the block,  and even blocking in the correct direction before the other guy has even begun his swing.

You guys haven't fixed jack shit cause clearly people are still using this hack. At the end of the day there is no automatic way to detect this hack. An admin has to spectate the player and make a judgement call, which is about the worst system of hack detection possible.

I think the only thing the admins and devs managed to accomplish is ban the idiots that were blatantly abusing the hack. However, I would be willing to bet a lot of people are still using this just trying to be more subtle about it.

7
I'm not even bothering to remove that link, I think the more we ban the more rewarding it feels.

Go ahead, give it a try, and say your char goodbye :D

How do the bans in this game work? Can you ban their cd-key or just their character?

8
This is really old news. First wave was 40 bans, next wave was something like 200.

Well I've been away for a while...

You don't need good hand eye co-ordination, cat like reflexes, or hours of practice. You know what it takes to be just as good as some of the pros on cRPG? Auto Block Hack. It's so good you don't even have to release your block button to change the block direction, you can just hold it down it will instantly block in the correct direction every time. Thanks to poor game design this hack isn't even detectable because the auto blocking system is part of the core engine already. The only way to stop this is for admins to manually spectate every player they suspect and make a call as to whether or not they think they are using this hack. So if you're careful with it you can go on for a long time without ever getting caught.

So next time you keep getting owned by somebody with god-like blocking skills don't let it drag you down... they're just some goof with a hack.

        What a f**king joke.........

WARNING: Use at your own risk with CRPG. It's still working fine for me, but the CRPG devs are claiming 40 bans (and at least one person here is flipping out over losing his characters). But if you care about your account/characters on CRPG, don't use it there.

Change for 2.0c - The occasional reset of auto block in game (stops working) should be fixed. If you didn't have that problem, there's no other change *at all* so you don't need to download 2.0c.

Warband Auto Blocker
for M&B Warband v1.143, Steam and Non-Steam
Version 2.0c

Download is at the bottom of this post, please read everything before you download!
Note: If you have issues with this version, read "TROUBLESHOOTING" at the bottom of the post before downloading version 1.

Features:
Full-fledged auto-block
Toggle on/off in game to prevent detection, with sounds to verify you've turned it on or off
Auto-adjust option so you don't need to release defend and click again to change block angle
Works seamlessly with both Steam and Non-Steam versions of Warband
Status window showing whether it's attached or not
Will automatically detach from the game if you close it, and reattach if you re-open it - just run it once and you're good

To use:
Download WABv20b.zip and unzip the file to anywhere you want - preferably not in your M&B folder for obvious safety reasons. Start MBAutoBlocker-v20x.exe (I would recommend renaming it for extra safety) in admin mode then start Warband. You should notice that even at the launcher screen it's detected what version of the game you're running and has attached itself.

Make sure you start the Auto Blocker *FIRST*.

Decide whether you're going to use auto-toggle or not – I would recommend against it for multiplayer, it makes it very obvious that you're using it. (It will follow every feint INSTANTLY). I'll leave the option in however, it's your ban if you want it.

Regardless of whether you check it or not, you can just start up Warband. Once at the main menu, go to “Options”, and make sure your blocking is set to “Automatic”.

Now, you can join a server. Press F7 to start it and you should hear a nice little 'CLANG' to let you know it worked. Press F8 to stop it and you should hear a little 'beep' to let you know it's off. This is useful for instant 'up-blocking', the M&B community's current preferred method of checking whether you're using this mod-app or not. So if somebody asks you to up-block, just tap F8 (BEEP!) and point upwards to block upwards, then when they're satisfied tap F7 (CLANG!) and you're back to auto blocking!

Download for 1.143 (Current):
Version 2.0c (Steam & Non-Steam)
Version 2.0b (Steam & Non-Steam)

Download for 1.134 (Old):
Version 2.0 (Steam & Non-Steam)

Troubleshooting:
This has been tested on several platforms, but if you encounter ANY issues, please try the following:
Windows Vista/7 - Make sure you run it in Admin mode (right click and run as Administrator)
Make sure you're running Warband v1.143
Make sure you're NOT running the old version 1 at the same time

If that doesn't work, please include the following in a support request via PM or a response to this post:
What version of M&B Warband you're using (version 1.xxx and Steam or Non-Steam)
Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, 7) along with 32 or 64 bit
What version of the Auto Blocker you're using (2.0, 2.0b, 2.0c)

Several unnamed people for helping me test thoroughly. (If you'd like me to name you, toss me a PM – but I'm not outing anybody without their permission)

I've removed the download links for obvious reasons. I'm not here to spread a hack, just to point out the current problem with this game. It took about 2-3 minutes to find this on Google there's not much point in trying to cover this up any longer. And for the record I have never used this or any hack. I'm just another non hacking frustrated player,

General Discussion / Play with friends?
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:38:01 pm »
I haven't played CRPG in a few months but I know there was talk about a system to let you be on the same team as your friends. Has that been done yet? I havhe a bunch of friends that want to get into this game but the fact that you get randomly put on teams kind of ruins the whole experience.

As if throwing wasn't difficult already... now you only get half the ammo. Who in their right mind though this needed a nerf?

I used the "Skip to 30" option today and made 4 throwing characters to try to different specs. Throwing is by far the worst thing I've tried in cRPG. I'm glad I didn't make a character the old fashion way as I would have be really pissed if I spent all the time necessary to get to 30 only to realize how useless throwing is.

I can't be the only one who thinks so as I haven't seen a single other player that was speced in throwing today or... as far as I can remember recently.

I mean honestly... who would ever put 6 points in power throw just so they can throw ONE LANCE that takes TWO F***ING SLOTS!!!!!

There's no point in even doing a detailed analysis as throwing is so clearly broken anyone who tries playing a thrower with the recent changes will end up deleting their character in less than an hour.
