Suggestions Corner / Re: Gold sink
« on: February 04, 2011, 08:20:25 pm »
I've been wanting a gold sink for some time as well now. I play as cav and roll with about 33k worth of gear I think, but I'm still making profit slowly :|. I don't have enough strength to use better weapons or armour and wouldn't want to use heavier stuff if I could anyway. I could use a better horse but I don't see the point when my heirloomed rouncey is far better value.

I was thinking it would be useful to be able to transfer gold to other characters? I've started other characters but always got bored with the lack of gold and decent gear, so would end up switching back to my main.

I play primarily as cav with a heavy lance and a shortened spear for when I fall off. I have 172 Polearm WPF and out spam nearly everyone when I'm not on horse back. I find it very quick to take down other horses as long as I can catch up to them (I'm on a Heavy Rouncey). The only problem I find is that due to my choice of horse I sometimes don't get the required speed for the instant kill in tight spaces. But that's a horse thing not a WPF thing. Overall I'm happy with my skill/horse/weapon choices.

I think you'll have to experiment a bit. I started as a 1h/polearm cav but realised I wasn't really using my sword for cav kills which was a massive waste of 140 (ish) WPF so I retired and piled everything into polearms. Only problem with this was I've had to learn manual blocking lol :P. But I'm pretty sure I'm getting maybe sort of alright at it now, so it's ok

On urban maps I upgrade by armour slighty, ditch the horse and use a long axe in polearm mode which seems to hit mega hard. So the build is pretty much a good all rounder map-wise. I'd say go for it and make the switch.

Despite the OP's obvious trolling I have to agree with him about the cav helping guys who are obviously about to be slaughtered.

I try to help these people if I can by bumping the player who's about to dice them into tiny pieces. But some (perhaps stubborn?) players decide to step between me and the target causing me to veer away quickly to avoid bumping them both. I'm not looking to take your kill I just wanna stop you getting killed so you can go on to contribute to the team winning the round.

The same sort of thing applies to many situations. If I see a guy going for the easy peasant kill I'll try to lance him. If I see 3 guys on one team mate i'll try and even the odds etc. I know there are cav who don't play like this and will slam through team mates just to get 1 measly kill and that's a shame but I promise you, not all cav are like that  :P

Pre-patch before I played as cav I used to think they were pretty dumb in the way they would seem to charge into trees or walls or other players. But now I realise they were probably looking in the totally opposite direction. Cav's heads are on a 360 swivel trying to find targets of opportunity as well as trying to avoid bumping team mates, avoid pikes, and dodge arrows, stones, javelins, flying axes. I've had many occasions when I've been multitasking like this and have bumped a team mate by accident in the process.

Genuine mistakes happen a lot in this game, so forgive for those. But by all means name and shame cav who care little for men on foot

General Discussion / Re: Destrier vs Courser
« on: January 28, 2011, 05:10:45 pm »
I used to use a Destrier but then I noticed that I was slowly but surely losing money so I switched to a Rouncey. I've now heir-loomed that up to Heavy Rouncey which isn't too far off the durabilty of a regular Destrier and for a fraction of the price.

I'm a lancer but I don't care much for fast horses. The way I see it is the longer my horse is alive the longer I am, so riding a horse effectively made of glass isn't a good plan I think. Some may say that you have more maneuverability and speed to dodge projectiles or get away from other horses but I disagree in a game where every other player has a throwing weapon or a pike :P. Doesn't really matter how fast you are you're still gonna get hit.

My heavy Rouncey usually survives even the most critical of hits, even from throwers or pesky ass stabbing pike-men. Which is great because it lets me ride off and find a new horse if need be instead of being chucked to the ground and then raped hard in all orifices.

Saying all this I may buy and try a Courser anyway, I have nothing else to spend gold on anyway :?

Desperately need a new gold sink as well.

I have nothing I really want to use my increasing pile of gold on. Yes I know I could blow it all on a few hours of playing with uber gear or whatever. But that doesn't seem very rewarding for such a significant amount of gold spending/wasting.

Although I have no idea what else gold could be used for  :P

General Discussion / Re: So....forget about riding a mid-tier horse now?
« on: January 11, 2011, 11:03:35 pm »
Well after playing again today I've decided I'm probably just breaking even with the Destrier. I'll win 10-15k one day then lose 10-15k the next day. So I decided to just heirloom my Rouncey which has made it almost as good as the Destrier and under half the price. If I ever get to level 31 I'll heirloom it again and it'll probably be equal.

I think heirlooming cheapo horses is the key to getting a good horse now, not how much gold you have/can get.

Explain what the no bonus actually does for retirement 15-30.  Is it nothing gained at all except if you retire at 31 what is the point of retiring at 30?  Do you get more gold per tick or anything?

Would like to know about this too. Pretty please, it just seems pointless to retire at anything but level 31 at the moment?

I'm definitely having more fun but that might be because I switched to playing cavalry instead of boring tin can with sword and board.

One thing that is really ruining the fun is auto-balance though. It consistently fails to balance entire games (5 rounds of epic defeats), today I played a game where one team were outnumbered by 10 (sometimes more) players for several rounds before the teams evened out again.

It would also be nice if there was less focus on nerfing things and more focus on adding new items and features! It just seems that the mod is becoming a constant circle of the nerfing and counter-nerfing. Which doesn't seem so productive.

Anyways thanks for the great work, and I'm liking the direction the mod is going (for the most part  :P).

If you choose Retirement Without Bonus you simply delete your character. Your heir is generation one and receives no equipment whatsoever. Just done it.

I was wondering if retiring this way links to the way people who retired pre-patch got to chose a certain number of new heirlooms depending on how many times they've retired already. So I had retired twice pre-patch and got to chose 1 new heirloom but someone who had retired say 10 times got to chose more.

So for example you retire 3 more times without any bonuses and on the 3rd retirement you get to chose a new heirloom?

Not sure if I explained myself very well there, but I hope someone will get what I mean  :P

Ok, some questions:

1, My char is gen 3 do I keep the exp bonus I gained from my pre-patch retirements? Or will I lose them if I retire now using the "without bonus" option.

2, Since I've retired twice, do I get to heirloom two items (or one item twice) now that heirlooms have reset?

General Discussion / Retirement Questions.
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:57:19 pm »
I noticed retirement seems to work now, so was about to go ahead and retire. But the text... "A filthy band of peasants, lead by Fasader, has attempted to steal your precious heirloomed items. However, you woke up and were able to save 1. Which ones?" is confusing me slightly.

Does it mean that I can only keep one of my previous items? Does it mean I can only heirloom one item and keep the rest (as before)? Or does it mean that because I have an heirloomed item from pre-patch that I have to ditch that if I want a new heirloomed item i.e. One heirloomed item per-person?

And my second question about the 2 types of retirement. Regular no bonus retirement and level 31 with bonus retirement. Is the bonus it speaks of the exp bonus? Or some new bonus I haven't heard of?

Thanks!  :)

EDIT:

Oh and I retired twice before the patch using both retirements on one item (Nordic Champ Sword). I've since noticed that the sword has gone back to it's original state, which is confusing me more...

I find that I can upkeep my Destrier fairly easily, although I do have a Rouncey for backup. Then again I obviously can't use it every map due to some maps being unsuitable for cav. But also then again I usually switch servers if some map comes up that I don't enjoy  :P.

I might just have been lucky since the .210 patch, so will see how it goes today.

I'm also thinking that I might ride with even cheaper armour on. I'm using 4k body armour and uber cheap boots and gloves so I barely notice the upkeep from them. I feel like an accountant these days on cRPG lol

General Discussion / Re: difficulties with my 1h/shield char
« on: January 09, 2011, 03:54:33 pm »
@MrNicklebe i also noticed that from a higher position in rare cases the overhead attack goes through the shield, does it go through 2h overhead blocks , too?
I love to jump kamikaze style into a crowd(prefered from a building while i havent been spotted), perhaps i even kill someone while spamming attacks(wakasashi any short weapon), but even more important
you harrases them to a point that they blindly attack and i had the situation of 3 provoked tk's that way
sometimes i even get out alive and get an e********
Is it a good playing style? Perhaps not, but take one for the team and i heard, in love and war annything goes.

I enjoy the occasional roof-jump-into-crowd tactic too. Mainly pre-patch though when I was a tin can and could take the hits a bit better though. Now I usually find myself surrounded when I come off my horse (I'm half light-cav, half sword and board footman now) and the jumping tactic is very useful to stay alive and be generally annoying that much longer. And yes short weapons are for the most part better in this situation because you need to be very close to the enemy to get one of their teammates to hit them :p
