Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Weapon Proficiency Costs
« on: January 14, 2011, 10:17:49 am »
If someone needs it, the formula of how much WPP a nth level of WM will give is : WPPs = 5n²+25n

I don't think this is right (unless it ninja changed last night or something :P), based on both my and other people's observations.

Each level of Weapon Master gives (10*new Weapon Master level) + 20 WPP

Good, simple post. Added a text based on this to the wiki (http://wiki.c-rpg.net/index.php?title=Retirement).

Actually the range is quite a bit shorter in half-swording mode.

Just received confirmation from devs that weight/wpf formula will not be available any more. Sorry folks, you'll have to keep speculating instead of doing easy min-maxing with my calc.

Took it out from the calculator page too, as the new calculation is totally different from what it previously was.

Calculator is now updated with 0.210 WPP gain information (thanks Gafferjack). Also added a xp-time counter, shows how long it takes to reach given level at given gen and multiplier.

Weight-WPF Calculator is still non-functional, haven't managed to fish the information out of the devs.

Also, is there any way to implement an Archery damage calculator or will using the melee damage calculator bring in similar results?

Melee calculator won't give good results for ranged damage as far as I know. It is based on Urist's research on Warband damage mechanics, so I can't really tell if there would be a doable way to find out information about ranged damage too. I just implemented a web interface for it, blame the other guy!

This is pretty much related to cRPG factions discussion (for example http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,661.0.html). They'll probably be either implemented together or not at all. Might wanna integrate this to the few topics discussing that.

Getting to from lvl 30 to 31 needs as much xp as 1 to 30, so you're not anywhere near lvl 31. Might wanna retire now if you really feel that the char is destroyed.

Remember that you can make multiple characters, that could be another option.

Nice job so far, looks like we got a few excellent editors already.

Looks like Arson remade a downloading & installing page (had similar stuff in http://wiki.c-rpg.net/index.php?title=Getting_started), making the steps a lot less detailed. This is of course a matter of opinion, but I think the newbie guides and basic install steps should rather be too detailed instead of too vague. Someone often pops to IRC or makes a forum post requesting help about stuff that seems trivial to anyone who's played the mod for any time at all. I'll re-add the details later if no one strongly disagrees.

Another important thing: let's try to make each article have a short overview, just like normal Wikipedia. A short paragraph or two giving the basic impression of what the article discusses in detail. This way people can get an overview without reading through the full article - you don't want to read through every detail when you've just started to play. Newbie-friendliness again.

Moscher, please link to the forum thread instead of directly to the calculator. That way people have to read the thread for update info etc, not just pop into the calc.

So link here: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,37.0.html

Added some content in the front page and made a basic page for fighting skills. There's a ton of stuff ready to be added with slight edits from all the newbie guide topics.

The most important thing is to keep the information parts informational and express your opinions elsewhere, either in separate articles or at least under different heading in the same article. That way the informational content can be easily updated without going through all the arguments whether or not something pwns. Forum is for discussion and issues involving varied opinions with arguments. Perhaps the most significant approaches (example, builds: full str / full agi / balanced attributes, hybrid / focused wpf, pure / hybrid skillpoints?) can be described in the wiki too, but every player's individual opinion should not be expressed in the wiki.

Mm, seems to be in line with my own research. Only got to 150wpf myself so far, so this adds to it nicely. I'll see what I can do.

I'm still having server trouble, calc is hosted on a backup solution. Can lead to occasional downtime etc. Working on it.

General Discussion / Re: Gold for Kills and damage
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:02:46 pm »
No, chadz finally managed to encourage teamplay instead of mindless killhunting. Rewarding kills leads to everyone rolling killer builds and ignoring the support roles.

All this "support would still be rewarded, killers are just rewarded more" is nonsense. It implies that killers are more important for their team than the other guys, which obviously is not true. As an easy example, a few cavalrymen (or even fast infantry) can harass a much larger group of enemies enough that they run after trying to kill them, allowing their teammates to overwhelm the outnumbered force and then finish off the heroic pursuers. The harassers may not get a single kill but they still contribute hugely to their teams victory.

Same goes for pikemen poking and supporting behind the front line and protecting flanks from cavalry, ranged taking down horses from afar etc. etc. There's just so much you can do besides kill.
