Peasant gear is kinda sucky looking right now.  I'd be fine with some more aggressive themes among the light armours/clothing.

Closed Requests / Re: Ban Request
« on: April 29, 2012, 09:34:34 pm »
I recently banned Skrubbin (half-hour) for intentionally teamkilling a player who he'd seen teamkill.  I'd like him to comment on the alleged incidents before any admin decides anything.  If he doesn't comment by later tonight we'll decide based on the evidence posted here.

General Discussion / Re: Who do you find fun to fight and play?
« on: April 29, 2012, 12:36:57 am »
It's fun to fight anything that isn't

(A) on a plated charger and aiming to bump rather than kill

(B) doing the weird hilt-slashing wushu that moderately skilled 2h-ers default into whenever they think they're facing easy prey

(C) tedious backpeddlers.  I get moving backwards as a move, but always running backwards out of every fight - especially with a one-hander - just seems boring for everyone.

And it's fun for me to fight with anything that isn't an enormous polearm or a low-end throwing weapon.  I'm terrible with most things but they're still fun to use.

Realism Discussion / Re: Shields on back should block arrows again
« on: April 29, 2012, 12:30:44 am »
I like this idea.  I place my shield on my back when I'm running with my back to enemy archers or when I can block better without the shield.  I'd enjoy a little more flexibility in how I carry my shield, especially when I'm trying to take a castle in Siege mode.

Closed Requests / Re: Ban Request: PK_IncrediblySkillful (Racism)
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:53:47 pm »
This is not the place for a discussion about justification for the kind of racism in question.  I find it distasteful to the point that I'd ban Black Wind permanently if I had the prerogative.  I don't, but I can justify a shorter ban:

- in-game racism is never justified or permitted
- a failure to recognize this obvious fact when it's pointed out justifies more than a warning
- Black Wind seems entirely unconcerned with the nature of racism or the effects racist statements may have upon other players

I'm issuing a week-long placeholder ban.  This ban may be reconsidered if Black Wind posts an apologetic ~750 word essay demonstrating his understanding of why racism is impermissible in-game and why racist prejudice is potentially harmful to folks irl.  It may also be reconsidered in light of further discussion among the administrators.

EDIT:  I realize now that I've no idea how to lock threads.  I suggest to those that do that this thread be locked, I don't know what else there is to discuss here.

General Discussion / Re: Please nerf archery.
« on: April 26, 2012, 12:29:41 am »
I killed 24 as a defender the other day in just one round while standing outside the gates on siege.  Should we nerf padded leather armour too?  How about ping?

This thread is silly.

General Discussion / Re: Speed HAX ?
« on: April 25, 2012, 12:58:51 am »
Your speed is affected by many things other than just athletics and weight.  Terrain can slow you down (e.g. the floors inside some castles), using your weapons to attack or block (e.g. raising your shield slows you down, and continues to do so for about two seconds after you do it), or even just going up hill.

Try this:  Spend the first minute of a round without attacking or blocking.  Run about, distract people, and avoid projectiles.  It'll show more starkly the contrast between forward sprinting and folks who block and attack more often.  It'll also give you a better sense of how different terrain can affect how you're moving.

Part of being a good player is being respectful and you've already been banned twice.

I like the idea.  If the devs balance it right, most items should remain largely unaffected.  Those that will be affected are the more boring ones anyhow: Kuyaks, Danish longswords, Italian Swords, some bows, some arrows, steel bolts, long spears, katana, huscarl shields.

I'd be happy if folks used these items less often, or just branched out a bit more.

If I see folks destroying friendly siege equipment I punish them.  Sorry I couldn't help you more last night Frank, I spent seven rounds in Spectator mode but didn't catch any fish.

Suggestions Corner / Re: NPC dummies on duel server
« on: April 22, 2012, 07:23:31 pm »
I agree with and support these ideas.  Especially the idea of showing speed bonuses for hitting the dummies.  Many folks don't realize how important they are.

Stranger suggestion: could we have dummies with wooden weapons that stand in place and attack?  This could help folks learn to block, especially if there were different difficulties...

General Discussion / Re: Raging over M
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:22:43 am »
f.e. if i get bumped within the first 60 and loose a noticable amount of my life
f.e. if a thrust or overhead would have done the job but i get sideswing spammed more then once by my own teammate because he is out of control or whatever
f.e. if a cav comes fullspeed couchlancing into a group where one or more friends are still in it
f.e. my teammate ranged fellow opens my block and causes my utter destruction that way (that causes for some  unconscious issues with this class to rise to the surface and makes me mad)

+

The general principle: Accidents happen, but carelessness is somebody's fault.  If I'm damaged by accident (e.g. the target dies and my friend's swing follows-through) no biggie, but if I'm damaged by a teammate shooting me in the back when I'm moving predictably that's not OK.

I encourage folks to use M in most cases.  Ordinarily it doesn't do much, but it can sometimes help teach really careless players a lesson.
