Agree. Jarids at medium/long range:
2 Points if I hits the horseman
4 Points if I hits the horse

You didn't say what horse or what the horseman was wearing.

You'll do a lot more damage to a 22 armor champion courser than you will to a 55+ armor loomed rider.

If it's based on damage then it's probably working correctly.

Glad to see horse damage being rewarded though.  There have been matches where I killed virtually the entire enemy horse brigade and got no credit for it because someone else always killed the downed rider.

Did valor get moved to a point based system?  Might be nice to get valor once in a while even if no kills were had.

Not sure if this was covered somewhere in the 13 pages of this thread but I don't like this one:

Steeper troop upkeep graph that encourages smaller more numerous armies over larger armies as this gets more people involved.

Small battles are a pain in the ass.

If I know there's a 50v50 battle at 8:15pm, that means I need to set an alarm on my phone so that I can stop what I'm doing in real life no later than 8pm, get to my computer, log into teamspeak, log into Strategus, organize the roster, deal with angry people who signed up and didn't get in because there was no room, etc, all for a 3 minute fight.

Providing us with an in-game interface for adding and removing people from the roster would help a lot, if that's even possible.

INCREASING army size so that 250 is generally the smallest battle would at least keep the time investment worthwhile.  250v250 is, what, about a 15 minute fight?  That's a reasonable return for the trouble of the in-real-life organizing of a fight.

General Discussion / Re: Beat cRPG on Hard Mode!

It's true.  WOW was so popular and they want to cash in on that a little bit, so big changes are coming.

* New max level will be 80.
* No XP from PvP.  WOW demonstrated that people prefer to level off of NPCs.  After the wipe, DTV will be the only game mode that generates XP.
* Instead of retiring for looms, NPCs in DTV randomly drop equipment.  The virgin also gives out quests like "kill 50 peasants".
* There will be new game modes that revolve around epic battles with NPCs that don't move until you attack them, and they drop things like +10 Danish Greatswords.  They're tough to kill and you need to get like 40 people together to do it and if you don't do it then you'll suck at PvP forever because of your gear.
* Real time melee combat deemed too difficult for most players.  New version switches to a model where you have "special moves" bound to keys 1-9, shift 1-9, ctrl 1-9, alt 1-9, F1-F12, your numeric keypad and every other key on your keyboard.  For example, Ctrl-8 will drop a fire totem and then alt-8 will summon a fire demon from it and then F8 will command the fire demon to attack.  It's very intuitive.

I got a sneak peak at the beta UI and took a screenshot.  Take a quick look because I'm going to take it down and delete this message in a couple hours.  I could get in real trouble for posting leaked beta info.

Strategus Issues / Re: Possible bug with crafting materials
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:40:33 am »
I've seen problems with other items too.  In one of the battles it said there was like 97 throwing left but if you picked it, you'd spawn without them and the equipment box stopped handing them out.

It's also fairly common to put stuff in the equipment box, look in there later, see "1 elite scimitar" or whatever, select to use it and it won't give it to you -- you also can't spawn with it.

I assume these problems are tied to people taking things out of equipment boxes (or maybe putting them in) but I dunno for certain.

Can't recall seeing this happen with armor, either -- just hand-held items.

Strategus General Discussion / Re: Crafting skill levels

They need to cut out non-authorized people from being able to buy from someone elses fief. It's kind of ridic that anyone can come into your castle and buy the siege gear they need to attack it.

Crafting can still be tied to crpg play. Maybe you need to like 100,000 ticks or something to upgrade a fief's smithing level.

Hopefully it will have a "public/private" switch as well as a tax rate.  So we could set it to sell to the public at 10% tax or set it to not sell to anyone outside the clan, if we want.

Yeah, pretty sure Digglez is correct.

They really don't want people to be able to change home servers easily, to avoid WvW abuse.  I don't think deleting all your characters is enough to free up your home server.  You have to pay to move it.

Fiefs will get loom points over time that can be spent to upgrade the equip you can buy in the fief.

So you're saying that crafting is going away entirely, to be replaced by buying?  (With fiefs being able to upgrade items within their buy lists.)

....I'm actually not opposed to that.  As mentioned, I do get tired of having to play something specific in cRPG just to be able to craft it in Strategus.

...Although I do wonder if there shouldn't still be some limited production rate.  Currently you have to prepare for a fight in advance, and you risk all that gear you have laying around if someone attacks at the wrong time (you aren't quite ready yet).  Under a buy-only system with no limits, you would just wander around with a million gold in your pocket, risking very little with your naked 1000-troop army, then you see a good target and blamo, instant equipment for 1000 troops.

Basically you could go deep into enemy territory with almost no risk, and then equip your army suddenly once you get there.

You CAN do that now but at a ridiculously high cost compared to crafting over time.

but few of these battles take places in the field, meaning when you lose a battle you lose your production.

Yeah but whose fault is that.  These 1000 troop armies aren't exactly fast.  You should generally see them coming.  You could also get people to stand outside somewhere as pickets and check strat now and then for an even greater change of seeing them coming.

There's no reason so many of these battles should take place in a fief.  A look at KDR history suggests there's really not much inherent advantage to fighting from the inside of a castle or town.  (Which does bring up the thought that maybe there should be more practical anti-siege weapons in the game.  Where's our boiling oil or ballistas or big rocks or things to shove away ladders, etc.  If cRPG were real life, nobody would build castles because there's no real advantage to them.)

Get your armies to carry a selection of +3 agility armor for you.

Also, I suspect that 2000 modestly armored troops would beat 1000 plate troops and cost less.  Milanese costs 3x as much as a Heavy Kuyak but certainly isn't 3x as good.  If you really wanted to defend a castle, you should be able to see the attack coming and run out there and meet them in the field with a couple of medium armor armies just to thin them out.  Then agility builds would be a lot more useful, not only for having lighter armor to fight in but for being in an open field.

Basically I think the problem is less to do with "omg plate everywhere" and more to do with a lack of strategy being employed by people finding themselves under attack by plate.

Troop tickets are cheap.  Plate is expensive.  Throw some lower cost armies at them.

The real problem is that GW2 locks you in (for WvW) once you've made your server choice.

I hope they do something smart like allow 100% free transfers for full servers.  Like once CD goes "full", they maybe link it with some other low pop server and say "For the next 36 hours, you can transfer for free from CD to this new server."  If they announced a program like that, I'd say "okay then!" and continue with CD.

As it stands, you'll have to pay real-life cash to transfer.  If it fills up and your guild can't get in, well, you're fucked.  (In Rift, our first server selection really did get a 4 hour queue on the first day, so those of us who got in just decided to abandon it and start over on a new server.  That won't work in GW2.)

I'd like to see something more like maybe "Clan Crafting".

If I have 50 points in Nordic Warlord Helmet then everyone in the clan can craft Nordic Warlord Helmet at 50 points, regardless of if they personally have it.

So "Blacksmiths" still have good value, but you just need to get them in your clan and then everyone with points can do those items.  (Perhaps crafting will take 5 strat points -- 4 from the crafter and 1 from the person who has the recipe, so you can't just have 1 idle blacksmith supply the clan forever.)

Just as a specific example:

NH_Veraphim has 33 points in a +0 helmet, 33 points in a +0 boot, 24 points in a +0 body armor, etc.

He's a fairly active player but he will never craft anything for NH because there is at least one person who is better at everything.  Turboflex has more points in a +3 helmet, I have more points in a +3 boot, Turbo, Zan and I have more points in a +3 body armor, etc.

So NH_Veraphim has all these points and they're basically useless, which is not that good for strategus player morale.

We need a system that doesn't simply cut out 95% of the players.

I'd like to know more about what's in store for the future of Strategus crafting.

The current system kinda sucks.  Let me count the ways...

* The burden of crafting tends to be on a small group of people: the people with the most points in the most +3 items.  Out of NH, probably 95% of the crafting burden is on 3 people.  The rest CAN craft stuff but why make "Mail Hauberks" at all when someone else can make "Lordly Scale Armor", which is similar enough and a lot better?  The "Mail Hauberk" guy might as well just not have any points at all.

* It creates a burden on what you wear in game.  I don't really want to be "the swingable polearm guy" but nobody else in the clan uses swingable polearms, so I keep doing it so we at least have someone who can make them (e.g., Mighty Great Long Axe).  Similarly, when I'm bleeding cash I like to downgrade my cRPG armor to something cheaper but then I get "chadz text" and it costs me points in my loomed gear and gives me points in stuff I will never craft.

Whatever the new crafting system is, I think it needs to distribute the crafting better, somehow letting more people be useful rather than all the burden being on the gen 15+ people, and I think it somehow needs to free us up to play however we want in cRPG rather than forcing us to use what we need to craft.

1) Allow slowly escalating forum trolling because we're "cool" and "it's just a game" and "stop being so serious d00d"
2) Trolling slowly drives off non-trolls and attracts other trolls
3) People mistake your forum for 4chan and post whatever they want.  What are you going to do?  Ban them?  Please.  Several people here have been 'permabanned' more than once.
4) ???
5) Profit?

Make Digglez admin for 1 month.

All problems solved.

Might want to advertise though, cause you're gonna need more players.
