Basically, I want a totally new slot mechanic, a more global one, a more complex one that could consequently work as a better balance for items without having to change the actual stats of said item.
200 total slots, everything will cost a certain number of slots, horses, armors, weapons, shields, you name it.
So, by adjusting the slots for every items, we'll be able to prevent people running around in full black armor with a flamberge and a crossbow, or full black armor with 2 different weapons and a steel shield.
This can also be used for balancing mean, if a weapon is deemed overpowered, just make it use more slots so that it cannot be used in conjunction with the high end armors or shields.
-
stupid. slots are balanced and well done currently

Or the item could be balanced.

Or the item could be balanced.
I don't quite trust the devs enough for this, what with the shitty item balance they've done so far, atleast with the slot system, the treshold of "Fuck everything up" is going to be much lower.

The number crunching isn't worth the effort. That's not the good way to balance. The simple 4 slots system works nearly as it should so I don't really think it requires such a big overhaul.
-
The simple 4 slot system doesn't stop anyone from using full black armor with steel shield and 2 weapons, which I personally find very stupid.

Why ? Besides, even with 24 agi you are so slow in plate armors that any lighter one is better.
-
Why should plate armor make you unable to carry a shield and two weapons? Plate wearers already pay a lot of upkeep and have a high WPF penalty, do you want them to disappear completely?

Everyone is running around with enough money to buy masterworked weapons @ 1,3 million gold, do you Really think upkeep is a problem anymore?
And why, yes I want them to disappear completely.
The WPF penalty is also not enough to make any sort of difference.

I hate people in plate because I'm an agility whore.
-
My current build is 24/15, hardly an agility whore, actually it's the cookie cutter build most plate wearers use nowadays.
-
Plate right now is rather ho-hum anyways. Blunt and piercing weapons rip through it like you're naked. If someone wants to wear 80k in armor let them lose 3.5k each round. Even with a 5x multiplier at all times they'll suffer a net loss of funds after you factor in a weapon, maybe a shield, and sometimes a horse (if you really want to hemorrhage dinars). 1.2 million might last a while, but it's by no means an infinite reservoir to draw upon.
-
Not to mention that xbows and longbows, agi characters using high damage pierce weapons, and cavalry can destroy the black plate turtles with such relative ease that most people find plate in general not worth using, except for lulz. Oh, and all of the above counters are rather common nowadays, just fyi. And if for some reason those arent present, teamwork beats plate wearers as the slow bastards are the easiest thing to spot, encircle, and flank. Best of all, the big shiny armor is a great visual cue for pubs to realize that they need to focus their melee attacks on the tin can
-
that will screw cav who needs horse and sidearm on top of their other stuff
-
I find that you give too much credits to pubbies, do you seriously think they'll all gang up the plate wearer? Nah, they'll all gang up the little peasant to get more and easy kills.
Also, depending on how the devs balance this shit if they ever implement it, I don't think it would screw cavs unless you went plated charged in black armor.
Honestly, I say the devs are more likely to screw cavalry several times over more than my suggestion.

Patricia....are you by any chance a female in real life ? Or you're just role-playing ?

Not if they want a multiplier, which I find many pub players (maybe its because theyre the better ones) generally do. I know that if I see a shiny back in front of me, I run up to it and go crazy instead of running off and screwing over the scythe swinging peasant.

more often than not, this isnt the case. tincans rape. the team with the most nearly always wins. loljumpslashing cav and all it takes it 1 hit on an agiwhore to decapitate his ass.

Please stop the BS... Heavy armors slow you down like fuck, both in movement and swing speed. It's literally safer to take a lighter armor when you have to face ranged spam (dodging). Furthermore, have you ever looked at the market ? Yes ? Look closer. Only a few archers have that much money, and the market only shows unsuccessfull, trololo overpriced offers (you never played any game with an auction hall ?). Most of the deals that really happen usually have one heirloom point equivalent to less than 275k gold.
And for the middle part, it's your opinion. Everyone I read here agrees the mod is better with more diversity.
About your build, it's actually better for you to wear light or medium armors. Heavy armors are only (barely though) useful to spam builds like 15/24 or 16/24 (16 for plate and various high tier weps and helms).
-

Are you EU? Because the only time I've seen consistent tin can rape is when Occitan shows up in bulk, and I usually attribute that more to teamplay. When pubs wear plate, I usually see them wander around more or less alone, making them easy to target and avoid, lance, or gang up on. And no self respecting cav player lets himself get loljumpslashed by a tin can.
-
I suggest you buy plate armor and demonstrate how OP it is, maybe your claims have a bit more weight then. Don't you think there is a reason why tincans have become a rare sight?
-
You hittin' on me, dawg?!
Only if you're EU.

I'm afraid that I'm an americunt french canadian.

I use heavy armor in my strength build, and I'm still fast enough both in movement or attack speed to kill anyone and depending on the kind of plate I use, the additional weight wouldn't be nearly enough to impair my abilities to run and kill shit.

I've not read anything in this thread that properly argues for a radically new slot system. There've been sporadic attempts at parts of a real argument but no proper arguments so far. Here's a template to follow in the future:
Problem Statement: This is the first section of any good original post. This is the issue we're attempting to address and the reason for which the argument proper exists. The problem statement most commonly takes the grammatical form of (1) preface (2) observation (3) normative judgement. This allows the problem to be evaluated based on three different and contestable points. Some examples:
(1)
- "I've noticed recently on the duel server..."
- "I don't think it's realistic..."
- "Some players in chat have been commenting..."
All of these are anecdotal examples. Other examples may be concrete statistical data provided by server admins or even historical documents. Whatever the case, the preface creates an avenue on which your audience can start following your thought process.
(2)
- "...that AGI builds always defeat strength builds..."
- "...that armoured strength builds run as fast as AGI builds..."
- "...that there's been admin abuse on the Siege server..."
The observation is important because it's the evidential base of the whole thread. If this information is wrong then oftentimes the thread falls ten pages back in two days. If it's unclear then the page can last for weeks, surviving on the interpretive discrepancies which prompt polemic people to argue for so long.
(3)
- "...so I think we should buff strength builds."
- "...so I think we should change the balance of weight to athletics in player running speed."
- "...so I think we should have democratically elected admins."
These judgments are the essence of the thread's attitude. Though the preface and evidence could remain the same different posters will form different judgments about a given observation. What's most important here is temperance. An overtly disrespectful or radical judgement of a common observation may cause a thread to be dismissed out of hand. Too minor a judgement, though, and the thread may simply be seen as stating the obvious.
The argument proper is a part of the original post which is not very unique to the original post. Every poster gets to make an argument but, for the most part, readers almost always work partially with the material initially provided in the original post. What does make the original poster's argument unique is that it sets tone and precedent for the rest of the thread. Only very large threads ever have a good chance of overcoming the tone and essential concepts argued for in the original post.
Arguments have two components: the premise(s) and conclusion. A valid argument is one where the truth of the premises necessitates the truth of the conclusion. A sound argument is a valid argument with true premises. The original poster should foremost seek to craft a valid argument. Though his/her premises may be false, such as if it were a observation of an aberration or piece of hearsay information, so long as its properly structured later posters can support your material with their own and, hopefully, come to a similar conclusion. Most threads fail to solve the observed problem in exactly the way the original poster intends. So long as the arguments are valid, though, a civil discussion can take place where posters learn from one another and, ideally, build on the original material to find an even better conclusion.
