Title: Just another Star Wars movie
Post by: Leshma on April 15, 2017, 03:30:10 pm

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527336/

Disney bought Marvel and Lucasfilm and is wasting no time to get that money back. How many annual Star Wars movies before you're officially bored of the franchise?

I'm kinda glad never got time to force myself watching new age Star Wars movies. After seeing what they are doing with franchise I don't plan to watch them at all.

I haven't watched the two last ones but I guess this is the one where you can judge the new franchise / trilogy they're making (not standalone) movies since they got all the fanservice out of the way. That being said all the new Star Wars movies look really medicore and pandering. With at least one Star Wars movie a year it's not gonna take long before everyone's tired of it, gonna be blasted with SW ads and merchandise everywhere. And with the license for SW games going to EA the whole thing is dead to me.

The last SW movie with Jedis in, the one with probably the most shit ending in movie-history when Mark Hamill looks into the camera like a senile old idiot... ugh, I was literally pissed after watching it.

In all fairness and in comparison to the above movie, Rogue was a good movie.

Molly what is German word for having low expectations?
Don't think there is a single word... 'niedrigere Erwartungen' would be the literal translation :)

Rogue one was solid, Farce awakens was solid, this one will probably be solid. Nothing memorable, just decent everything in a interesting universe.

The one thing in this fairly 'meh' trailer that interests me is Luke Skywalker saying 'It's time for the Jedi to end'. Even long before Disney took over and announced a new trilogy I was nerd enough to have my own theories about what happened after Return of the Jedi, and always assumed that Luke 'brought balance to the force' by teaching the force in balance rather than just pure Dark Side or pure Light Side.

Instead of SW being the same old good vs bad, jedi vs sith story, it'd definitely be a nice way to shake things up by declaring that BOTH points of view are wrong, and the "correct" path would be one down the middle. The director recently clarified that the Jedi in the title was a singular person, so it really only makes sense that the last jedi is luke, and he's going to start training rey to be a mere force user, neither jedi nor sith. It'd be cool to have a protagonist who can utilize all their emotions/force powers when fighting. Can't wait to see Rey shooting bolts of lightning at the baddies, while still remaining sane and not getting all yellow/red-eyed. That said, it'd be almost hilarious if that is just some throwaway line taken completely out of context to generate discussions such as this.

"When Kylo Ren killed off all my padawans, you know what he said? *Pauses for dramatic effect, trailer snippet starts here* 'It's time for the Jedi to end.'" - Luke

Those cut scenes are incredibly cheesy, yet still better than modern Star Wars.

I liked rogue one too. Thinking of it as a single movie, not an attempt to squeeze more money out of an overused franchise.

I love Kyle Katarn as much as anyone, maybe more. And it's hip to hate on the new Star Wars movies cos they're so popular, but these cutscenes are enjoyable only in the way 60s Batman is enjoyable, except 60s Batman was doing it on purpose.

I don't know in what universe the acting, direction, writing and action in the new SW movies are in any way inferior to these cutscenes. We're talking about a guy who cant act even with physical props and another actor in the room, having to mime picking up a CGI box. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing, but it's not good.

It is product of different time and circumstances. For video games back then it was great. Why don't you watch Red Alert FMV from the same period. Ain't any better, although it involves better actors.

Modern Star Wars can be ten times as popular, it is cancer. Disney produced and branded cancer. I'll rather gouge my eyes out than watch Disney channel or anything Disney basically. They were great when Walt was alive but this megacorporation of today... should be burned to the ground.

You know, fifteen years ago my buddy and me decided to watch movie Nosferatu from 1920s. Mute, stop motion movie. We couldn't do it. Anything modern is way better, even Uwe Boll movies or old Ed Wood works. Unfortunately, it didn't age well. But that doesn't mean that any modern crap is better, Nosferatu was huge achievement when it was made one hundred years ago.
