Title: How do you explain crpg and strategus to others?
Post by: BlackPanda on January 19, 2016, 02:39:11 pm: I find it pretty difficult to explain both of them (especially strategus) to anyone who hasn't played the mod. How would you guys explain BOTH of them?

Longest: I don't really feel like writing paragraphs, you all know what the game is and nobody is going to care long enough in conversation to hear everything in painstaking detail If they're interested they will look it up or play it themselves.

The inevitable result is the poor motherfucker imagining a perfectly-ported singleplayer campaign map translated flawlessly into a multiplayer experience. Every fucking time I've tried, the unlucky fuck starts getting excited as hell, and I just feel plain awful that they're always, without fail, coming up on a rude awakening.

Then strategus I say its a MMO singleplayer map where you have to trade and defend your fiefs and shiet. Most of em are just like k then I just help them understand.

If they already know what native is, then you've got it easy.

When somebody asks me what I play I just say that they don't know it anyway and if they insist, I say it's a mod of Mount&Blade Warband. At this point it seems that they can't even repeat the name of the game that I just mentioned. I tell them that it's a mod to the game that has the best melee system invented so far. There are blocks and attacks selected manually with mouse movement, controls are pretty intuitive and you can just be a knight, etc. I tend not to go into strategus explanation unless I want to totally confuse them. I always sound like an overly involved nerd.

Strategus: combine eveonline resource management, the old REAL final fantasy 7(fallout 1&2 also works) map travelling and finally single player 2k vs 2k battles.

On a side note, I completely forgot why the singleplayer campaign part of crpg was removed from the mod. Does anyone remember?
