I would have preferred large natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, meteors, tornados etc because they are epic and dramatic... But I will settle for this.
If population growth is actually capped or begins to decrease, that is the best thing possible for the earth and everything on the earth.

No amount of electric cars and solar panels could compare to the benefits of population reduction in terms of curbing pollution and use of natural resources...

When you wake up there won't be bottles of purified water stashed everywhere and you will probably just die of dysentery, some other infection or exposure to the elements.

Of course they have, because it was always likely to happen. This is simply pointing out that it's becoming a serious reality now.

From my limited expertise regarding antibiotic resistant diseases:

The strain that is resistant often, if not always lose viability(effectiveness in surviving) in an environment without the antibiotic present.

It's kind of like you got 100 mil $
Group 1: (none resistant strain) AK-47 all the way!
vs.
Group 2: (resistant strain)Many AK-47 some anti tank and AA-weaponry body armour, armoured military vehicles, fortified command centers etc.

The difference between group 1 and group 2 are
Group 1 can recruit/support more men for the same amount of resources thus being able to cover more of an area
Group 2 has the benefit of being able to not only survive/resist police and the local under equipped military(aka. antibiotic) but defeat it.

The point is that Group 1 would still win a direct competition about influence/power/resources unless opposed by organized well equipped and trained forces(antibiotic)

The grimmest but probably safest way to deal with antibiotic resistance is to stop using the antibiotic for a few decades and let the resistant strain lose in the internal competition with the none-resistant strain(s).

But that is VERY dangerous if it goes wrong, some would say it is too risky, there's a possibility that Group2 manages to mutate a sustainable strain, that might even fed upon Group1
Just like a paramilitary group taking power then keeping the lid on group1 with strong arm tactics.

Edit1: Last two paragraphs are a bit contradictory, edited text added in red, no text has been removed.

So you're saying we need to arm this group 1 and give them resources to fight group 2 for us so we don't have to do anything.

We proxy war now. Now I know how Russia and the USA feels.

I'm in. Even the Black plague didn't kill everyone. Let's find out what happens.

Arming Group 1 in this analogy of mine would be equal to genetically engineering the none-resistant strains to out compete Group 2(resistant strain), In my opinions that's just plain stupid and genocidal.

In the best of possible worlds(according to me) We should demilitarize group 1 and 2 through(genetically engineer the resistant and non-resistant strains to be non-lethal infections)

In this analogy of mine that would be like making Group 1 and 2 stop using lethal force and reform them to wage a battle of ideas within civil society, rather than with lethal violence on the battlefield.

Strains creating a civil society in my body and waging battles of ideas inside? No thx. Das creepy.

Anyhow, this thread sounds way more interesting than the same old immigrant/terrorism bullshit threads we've had the last 2 years.

Just you wait, nobody's started quoting wikipedia at each other yet to describe how mutation and resistances work in viruses.

Hi.tler created anti-biotics and every wikipedia link is correct

Just you wait, nobody's started quoting wikipedia at each other yet to describe how mutation and resistances work in viruses.

But antibiotics don't work on viruses!

(click to show/hide)

Also, antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria would start to decline if you decreased antibiotic use, but it would take a very long time for the non-resistant strains to out-compete them in all the environmental niches out there, including asymptomatic colonies of MRSA in humans. Which is especially prevalent in doctors and nurses.

Feeding antibiotics hand over fist to pigs and cows to get a few kg of more weight should stop at least.

If you start messing with western nations food culture... then shit will get real!

We would subsidise the meat production, it would most likely go so far that it unofficially decides the outcomes of elections.

If you wake the intellectually pacified west by messing up one of our sedatives(overabundant animalistic fat/protein access) then there will be riots.

Soy is disgusting. Ate that shit instead of mean for nine months straight. Them vegans are fucked up in the head. It is worse than being on protein only diet (you know, the kind of diet where you stink like rotten eggs after just two weeks).

Honestly. Most delicious food is non-meat anyhow. But going vegan would still mean eating disgusting things like onion, garlic, soy crap and tons of nuts. I doubt I handle take that

Pork and lamb + all weird non-mainstream meat is bleh. Maybe Bacon but otherwise pork sucks. And lamb makes me puke.

Best meats imo are beef, deer meat, elk meat, turkey. And tuna fish + salmon. Chicken is okay.

Pork is "non-mainstream", but deer and elk are? What? Pork is eaten in most of the world.
