Like seriously? Hold LMB to keep attacking? Even state of decay has better combat than this. I really had high expectations considering it was in develompment for 3 years, but honestly this sucks. They went all the trouble to remove the ''on rails'' ascepct of the previous games by adding physics and jumping, only to forget about combat like that. It is almost as if they were like they went in the right direction, then said ''fuck it, lets just copy the previous games regarding combat''.
Shame on you EA...

use a controller and play as a Knight Enchanter, it owns

What were you expecting? Directional combat?
Personally I'm enjoying the combat a lot. Mages are still OP though. I've gone the electric/rift mage route and atm everything dies so fast.
-
They absolutely did NOT "copy the previous games regarding combat"; DAI has very little to do with DAO's combat. Many people like DAI's combat, myself included. One of the best combat systems of any RPG ever... probably the best, in fact. If you're "holding LMB" to fight, then you're doing it wrong. I suggest you play on Nightmare (lulz) and then maybe play something other than an archer. DW Rogues and shielders are the most fun and engaging classes to play, where you have skills that take good reflexes and you're constantly using at least one skill.

I don't get what are they waiting for, make the masterpiece everyone's expecting; KOTOR 3. Fuck dragon age, never liked the series, fuck mass effect, that I enjoyed tbf, gimmie a fucking sequel to the only rpg comparable to fable
-

Okay, that was genuinely good.

Okay I will be plain, I expected something more than just that wowish crap with da universe slapped on top. There is no tension in combat, no thrill, and it once again boils down to ''left click a target and watch it die, use an ability sometimes too'' FUCK THAT, YOU NEED TO HOLD THE LMB TO ATTACK YOUR ENEMIES!!! I-NOH-WAY-SHOON!!!
This crap was not worth three years of development, not even close. I mean sheesh, at least DAO combat worked properly most of the time...

Which difficulty are you playing on?

I do not believe that the speed of how fast numbers flow and in what incrementals really matters. Playing on hard btw, I dont like to thread the thin ice walking...
EDIT: I am fairly sure everyone remembers assasins creed games. The combat there was not very challenging (especially when brotherhood came around), but what did it have? Blocking, dodging, counter attacks and so on...
You could really feel it when you atacked your enemy, and he blocked the strke by completely redirecting your hit, or the finishers, when you brutally butchered your enemy, leaving him bloodied on the dirty ground...
There is none of that here, just another basic mmoish stuff, but crap you can jump, at least that is something...

Huh? If you aren't playing on the hardest difficulty, how can you whine that there's no tension, no thrill, and it's just LMB-down?

If you want a game with actiony combat play a game with actiony combat, like Dark Souls?

How dare you speak sense in his thread?!

Nightmare do you enjoy complaining just for the sake of it or something?

It's just that people are starting to expect the multi-million dollar budget games to actually have some decent combat after all this time, but i guess thats too much to ask..
-
It's not, but, surprise surprise - people have different opinions on what "decent combat" is. One man's shitty combat is one man's great combat. Witcher's combat system has also split opinions. It's just ignorant to say "wow, what a bad combat system" just because YOU don't like it.

The Witchers combat is meh imo. I havent heard anyone saying it was very good, nor do I think there are a lot of people who think so. In W-s case its bad or meh, the games strenghts lie in other things. And I think Inquisition is meh aswell. But I can see why people like it. DA-s combat is tactical RPG combat, which should be graded different from Witcher or Warband, which is single characters melee combat. If you think it like that, its rather solid imo.
-
I like both...
Honestly can't see the complaint. It's what I expect out of RPGs.
I never use the tactical part on Dragon Age. Have never ever seen the point.

There are a lot of people who think TW2's combat is good, especially on the hardest difficulty settings.

Wasnt it just doing asston of barrelrolls on the ground and constantly using that lightningshieldthingy? Granted, its reflexbased, but still.
-
Is group combat still there? I remember combatsystem of DAO primary becouse of the possibility to give quite detailed combat-orders to party members. I never really put emphasis in fighting with my char.
Further Daragon Ages strength was storytelling not the fights...
However, pls let it have some of old Dragon Age command system, it was nice. For actionstyle 1st/3rd person egofighting there is enough other stuff.

Meh sure, let us just use antique mmo combat for the sake of it...

Well, there is tactical mode, but using it is a pain in the ass.

I agree there, but that does not mean they dont have to try. The combat as of now feels incredibly shallow, shame really, considering they went with the pain of implementing physics and what not...
Good combat system is expected of a game that is fairly combat centered. If you botch it, the game will end up boring and repetitive. I mostly pulled through DAO because of the story and how fleshed out the characters were.

Hate to say it, but the only newer rpgs that got the combat at least decently right were the dark souls games imo...
I mean, the system there was fairly unresponsive and heavy handed, but it had most of the essentials (blocking, parrying, dodging etc.) included.

Played it recently, despite some animation and ai screw ups (and ignoring the weird animations for 1H weapons), the combat in TW 2 was one of the best ive come to contact with. It is intuitive and keeps things fun.
