Title: Returning (casual) player: What has changed?
Post by: Kenji on November 16, 2014, 08:38:47 pm
Hail, friends,

Ever since the release of SWTOR in 2011, it has been three long years since I last braced the field and get myself killed even when dressed in full plate riding on my champion plated charger.

I have tried to read the patch notes, though it is perhaps easier if I simply ask the community what the major changes were. From what I've read so far, archers seem to have received some nerfs. If someone can summarize what has drastically changed, I'd be most grateful.

I've been enjoying the new voices so far, they have far better quality than they were before.

Cheers Mate,
Gearhardt

There were voices in 2011? Anyway, you are talking about 3 years of development, a lot has happened, and I mean a lot.

I think it was either late 2011 or early 2012 when male characters had decent voices whereas female characters had terrible quality voices.

I suppose I'll just have to play and (get killed) experience the changes first-hand.

I see the community is still as vibrant and as humorous as before

Random stuff about the last few years...

You can roll if you double press a or d when you fall down

You can nudge (basically kicking while moving). Bind it in controls

Voices are a bit more humorous now

You level faster now and get free respec every 7 days

Shields are lighter and have more armour

Rather than nerf high level guys they made everyone high level. Battle seems quite unpopular atm

Everyone dies in a couple hits..armour is a bit useless

Tonnes of new items. Lots of balancing on the melee side of things (overall 1 handers got loads of buffs, poles got nerfs, 2 hand got some nerfs. Melee is not very unbalanced in general)

Ranged still OP. They are 10x better in melee now and still very potent at distance

IF is a bit more of a useful skill to take but other skills are still higher priority

Thats probably it.Cav is kinda useless since last patch IMO.
Also you only have to bind nudge if you use WSE2 Beta,if not its v.

Hail, friends,

you called?

some things were removed, and overall balance got a bit better. grumbs explained the rest
its easier to level and you have double xp at all times. when in conquest you start with x2 if you had x1 before or just logged in.

Also, game is a total spam fest in melee. Game took a few steps back in combat with the last patch

We are all still enternal grateful that no-one listens to Grumbs grumbling every 2 days about how his class is ignored unloved and killed by ranged. Infact im amazed that he managed to make it to an actual melee combat to complain about the low quality of it given the fact that according to him ranged are firing bazookas from humvees as they only do hit and run tactics ruining his round everytime he wants to play before he even gets a chance to engage in any melee at all.

Wut. If all you got from my posts in this thread was "ranged OP" then I think you have a bit of a reading comprehension issue

Thanks for the comprehensive list of changes as well as your insights, everyone.

I suppose the changes applied to melee (shield/polearm bash and nudge) only increase the skill caps further. After a few matches in battle, I still can't differentiate whether the game is more balanced or not since I'm not a good player to begin with. I'll just take you guys' word for it being more balanced than before, lol.

Too bad, indeed, that plated donkey chargers are naught but a fantasy.

Oh and they fucked the ever loving shit out of dtv by replacing the villager with the innocent virgin, then fucking the virgin by replacing her with that speccy-bowl-haired-cut-fuck-small-dick-skinny-coont-eat-more-wanker valdemar, and added conquest, another game mode that is basically capture point that sometimes appears on siege

And it seems a lot of the maps suck nowadays

+1

Yeah ignore grumbs, he's a average melee player who hates range so much he has to say they're OP/Easy to play in 99% of the threads he posts in.

You're still yet to prove to me grumbs that ranged are OP and easy to play.

Quite the dire news, as DTV was one of my favorite modes (being the PvE casual hero that I am) and I don't think siege is, at all, populated even during prime times for NA.

I can only hope the revival patch will prove to be the incentive of players returning/joining cRPG.

I think people can make their own minds up without you telling them. I did xbow/1 hand with last respec and it was the most boring and predictable time. Point, click, hit or miss..then back to normal melee gameplay. Still was topping scoreboard when I could be bothered and half my points weren't deserved, and I am shit at ranged

You 2 are making this thread about anti range, not me

Friends, my intention of starting this thread is to see a comprehensive list of what has changed not just for me, but for other returning players, as well.

Grumbs may have certain subjective views on the changes, but he did provide a good list of information that may have taken us returning players a good while of digging through the patch notes.

I'm not surprised when people lobby for their favorite playstyle, but let us at least be respectful and courteous of others' opinions regardless of their ability in-game.

Where it will be slowly digested over thousands of years? Aha! You'll be greatly enhancing the lifespan of my dick then!

Fear my bright yellow armour and single-lightsaber wielding obese assassin tank character!

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Imperial Intelligence Training, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on the Republic, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire Imperial Armed Forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the Galaxy and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Imperial Intelligence and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

You missed one hell of a three week period where DTV was an XP fest. (I believe it was earlier this year?)

All the maps were basically narrow tunnels, and all you had to do was get about 5 people to block the bots with a shield wall and bash away for max XP every round.
The XP rivaled even the biggest strat battles of the time.

That reminds me of the older version of DTV. It was pretty much "Defend the Village Ruins", all they needed was one steel shielder and two 2H/Poles to derp through the whole thing

Despite my lack of high awareness and lightning reflexes required to be a good player in this game, I actually managed to be a S1 All-Star in SWTOR on my commando healer!

That just says how much emphasis there is on player skills in cRPG and less thereof in generic brand MMO.

Have we another NA siege bro, here? Well, well... I better go and add you to the list... of 8.
Noone seems to be participating in Siege Beta mode whereas there are at least 10+ in DTV during NA prime time. I miss the good ol' zerging in siege.
