Title: What function does weight play in dmg calc for weapons???
Post by: FRANK_THE_TANK on October 02, 2014, 04:35:36 am
Persian battle axe is the heaviest none maul/great lance weapon in the game.

My question is what does all that extra heft actually do? I know that it helps stun other weapons but I find that given the slowness of the axe itself that weapon stun doesn't really do anything to shut down spammers or open up the overly cautious.

So what in the hell is it's purpose?

Well that makes sense.

I think you're undervaluing weapon stun, but yeah, many weapons are too heavy (particularly many swords and other quick weapons) to make use of the stun as effectively. Maces and the slow axes should be able to use their weight as both a disadvantage with movement and an advantage tactically with stun.

You see that's more or less how I thought it should work out but in practice the big heavy axes etc just don't really effect the lighter swords because the speed deference is so large that stun doesn't really come into it at all unless it's group combat and really at that point it's less about stun and far more about the mob working as a unit.

Maybe they should jack the weight up on some of the fairly slow axes and blunt weapons???

You can stun the enemy weapon much more often when you hold your swings a little, if that helps :P

I made a thread talking about that a few weeks ago. Hopefully something comes out of it.

It'd be great to see what all is actually being looked at/considered. I wonder if it's possible to make that forum read-only to the general audience.

Think about what you just wrote, and imagine all the tears if it did, all the suggestions from "I know better than you" guys, oh god please no, that would be a terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible idea (did I say terrible?)

I made threads that affect many items, so it's a slow process to make sure people are satisfied enough with the changes to vote favorably.

I like transparency, but I'm not sure how helpful being able to see the discussions would be. It's not much different than the suggestions/game balance forum with a poll attached other than posts being more long-winded on average.
